Yesterday. we went to Wesley's place in Chai Wan.

The same hi-efficiency open-back speaker box now house a 56-year old
Loewe fullrange as woofer and another smaller unit as "tweeter" (these
are radio speakers). A cheap Fostex is used as supertweer. Only 2 caps
and a resistor in the entire speaker. Cost ~ HK$1,300. No, this is not
a misprint. No 0's missing. Rest of system:

Preamp: Bottlehead Foreplay III (US$369)

As some of you may know, I have the original Foreplay:

http://www.bottlehead.com/et/adobespc/foreplay/foreplay_line_stage_kit.htm

As you can see, foreplay requires tubes but to raise the level of
foreplay, one must add more (and BIGGER) tubes! :-)

Amp: Wai Lee (Tat Fat 3rd floor) amp (HK$9k). For the afternoon KT66
was used by Wesley.
TT: VPI Aries/Denon 103 into cheap Lundahl stepup.
No CDs used.
Phono amp: Bottlehead Seduction (US$269):

http://www.bottlehead.com/et/adobespc/Seduction/seduction.htm

Cheap WE thin cables almost throughout.

Sound was very good and detailed, and would put many less well set-up
expensive systems to shame.

Then at my request Wesley changed to a ss T-amp, basically size of a
lighter without casing. He has 2 of them. The cheaper one cannot be
used yesterday, so we used the more expensive (US$80) diyparadise
Charlize:

Read about US$30 Sonic Impact T-amp that stirred the world:

http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/sonicimpact/t.html

Driving the efficient speakers these amps did very well in the >300
ft room. It has its limits, not quite as airy as a SE tube amp, but
very good, and with good speed and impact. Good testures too!

Note that Tripath chips and T-amp circuitry is at the heart of a LOT
of hi-end amps, like Rowland, ARC ss amps etc etc.

Then Wesley put on a show of installing Shun Mook stuff. Not just
Mpingo discs but a lot of other weird looking stuff. Sound did indeed
smooth out and gained focus. Great show. I particularly liked the
small wooden house (not SHun Mook but housing one disc inside).
