Have you checked your CAD drawing?
The file you posted will not draw the second contour as the vertical line
forming the smaller rectangle is not connected to the horizontals even though it
looks as if it is.
Try deleting this line then use the line drawing tool for a line at a defined
angle set to 90 degrees. Place this line where you want the smaller rectangle to
commence. Then using the split tool split the vertical line where it crosses the
horizontal lines. This will give you a connected line to the both horizontals.
Then the contours will work.
Hmmm! I find it odd that they would not be connected !! When I made the drawing,
I used 90 degree, and 0 degree lines then clipped the excess. I will try again
and see what happens. Dan

Hi Michael,
I finally had a chance to go thru the video. Thanks. It does help a lot,
but it still doesn't explain what the parameters in the 4th axis popup box
are. I just need some real world explanations of what exactly those values
are and how to use them.
For example:
What data am I supposed to put in Rotary axis "X" or "Y"???
What exactly is a Radius value? Is that the radius of a finished part or
unfinished part? Perhaps the bottom of the slot after cutting?
The help files/manual are not very helpful in regards to explaining what to
enter in these boxes???
It would be helpful to see some photos of a part. Mabe even a video of a
machine making a cut.
Like for example, the slot example in the videos. You made a slot that was
80mm x 20mm, yet you entered 100mm in the radius value. Why? How does that
compute?
I'm still really confused on this.

I'll give it a try :-
1) The standard Cartesian coordinate system defines that
The 'A' axis rotates around the X axis.
The 'B' axis rotates around the Y axis.
The 'C' axis rotates around the Z axis.
So :-
The radio buttons Enable A or B axis is used to
define
the orientation of the rotary table i.e. is it
Parallel to the
X or Y Axis.
For our purposes we will assume 'A' is enabled which gives a
coordinate set of AXZ, where A is rotary, normally measured in
degrees.
2) Rotary Axis 'Y' value, normal default is 0.0.
This defines the Y position at which the Rotary table is mounted on
the bed of the machine. .e.g. If the table is mounted at Y 150 then
the contents of this item would be 150. This value is only used in the
positioning of the tool prior to Rotary work.
Depending on the particular post, the tool would normally move at
'Clearance Plane' height to this value prior to the commencement of
a Rotary exercise e.g. G00Y150Z50.
3) Radius Value
Linear 'Y' values are converted to Rotary values using the trig
equation 'Circumference = pi * Diameter'. One degree of movement
being Circumference / 360.
To be able to convert Linear values to Rotary Values we must define
the Diameter / Radius of the stock bars we wish to machine.
Therefore if we are machining 50mm diameter bars then the rad
value entered here would be 25mm.

Michael

In the TURN manual 'Tooling - Define Turning Tool' there is a dead link to a

I cannot find this documentation, seen it long ago but due to crashes I do not
have it any more.
Can you guys help me out with a link to this documentation

Hi all;
I purchased Dolphin Cad last year for a CNC mill project, and I now want to
build a CNC plasma cutter.
Drawing the part in Cad is no problem, but then what?
Can I use the Cam portion for plasma?
I have a hard time learning new software, so I'm reluctant to try and learn a
totally new program.
BTW, I will be running Mach3 on my plasma machine. Thanks, Dan
I have Dolphincadcam as well but I don't know if they have a post for plasma
cutting but SheetCAM does just save the DXF file
And bring it in to sheetcam.

I have imported DXF before, but never saved as.

Thanks !! I got it to work !!
Someday I will find out all of Dolphin's capabilities. Whether I remember it
all, that's another story. ;-)

Could someone please take a look at the CNC file I just uploaded (axle bearing
holder), and let me know why I am getting an error when I get to the four slots
!!
The program is telling me that the tool is too large for the outer boundary. I
have tried this with a smaller toolbit (.125 dia), and I still get the same
error.
Thanks
Weird.
You are going to have to send the DRA and CNC file to dolphin on this one.
I crossed out all the operations with the first tool and ran just the slots and
they worked.
However when I went back selected the first tool and the last area clear it
refused to do the area clear as the tool was too big ?
I have never used the slot command as all my work comes into dolphin as DXF
files and I only use the operations on the left of the screen and have never
used the commmand menu items.

Tool 3 diameter has to be less than the slot width (I dunno why...), so I set it
to .374 and it runs ok.

Thanks guys!! I re-did the CAM part, and now it seems to be OK !! I was able to
cut my part last night.
I appreciate your help.

I just had one last question for the group.
I will be upgrading my old computer to a complete new system, and I'm not quite
sure how to move the Dolphin program.
I also have Mach2 that I have to move, but was told by their techline that I
just have to copy and paste my license file to the new program.
Is it that easy for Dolphin?
Thanks in advance
Dan

Instructions for moving the license to another computer is on page 17 of the
document Getting Started with Partmaster.
http://www.dolphincadcamusa.com/media/Manuals/Getting_Started_with_PartMaster.PD\
F
As to Mach, install it into a c:\mach3 directory on the new machine, then copy
Mach1Lic.dat to that machine's mach3 directory.

good day
"server busy error"
I have run into this error while using contour in the cad side of the program.
after a search on this group messages #1533 thru #1525 discuss this error as
well.
Is the post processer for mach-3 the cause for this error?
was a cure found?
thank you for your help in advance
Geoff
Hello Geoff,
We have had this problem on some Pc's but not all, it's proving to be a bit
tricky.
In the mentime you can create the contours in CAD then transfer them into CAM
for machining, this actually gives you far more options and better tool
graphics.
The post-processor is not the problem.
