Weblogic 8.1 JMS just didn't have the full support for high availability that we needed. 9.0 adds more features and you might try reading the 9.0 docs as they might better explain the issues with these features since they more fully support them now. Good luck and I like to hear what you find.
I'd love to see a good overview of the new 9.1 JMS features if it hasn't been done at a meeting already.

I'm not sure why you didn't get a failure notice. It
could be something specific in the configuration of
the new pool or it could be related to the driver.
