Douglas,
There is a program called Twins File Merger from
http://www.twins-software.com
That will merge the Ia5 files (from 00 to 99). The result can be opened in
Digital Atmosphere to give world wide synoptic coverage.
The software does need to be registered.
Cheers
John

Nigel the files are more or less coming in continuously. Since I was
activated this morning about 11.00 I have received over 420 files.
As I paid for a service about 2 years ago I have some knowledge of what the
files are.
Briefly the .ia5 files can be opened by notepad, and contain upper air and
synop data in numerical format. It could be input to a program such as
Digital Atmosphere to provide plots.
There is also a lot of imagery data (usually of the German area) from NOAA,
Meteosat 8 and Feng Yun. None of it is up to the standard we are used to
from Eumetcast and can frankly be discarded.
There are many useful charts for a range of meteorological data in tiff
format and some other files (once per day) for winds at different pressure
heights etc etc.
The data is interesting but I would suggest very much for the meteorological
minded person or those wishing to learn more in that field. With the wealth
of other data we are getting (not to mention 17 channels of EPS soon) I only
hope I can find time to do some learning.
Remember the channel name is DWDSAT and the PID is 302.
Hope you and the family are keeping well. Any sailing this year !
Best regards
Douglas.
