Roland,
You need to add a section like this:
[DWDSAT]
target_directory=received
I suggest you point the received data to the same target as the majority
of your other data.

My MSG Data Manager handles both the normal GOES data over EUMETCast
(saved as JPEG or PNG), and the TIFF images sent over DWDSAT. You can
visualise the TIFF images through any image viewer (e.g. IrfanView), and
the JPEG/PNG images with my GeoSatSignal software,

David

Hallo,
Could someone please tell me what exact wording is necessary for
amending the recv.channels list by DWDSAT ?
Thanks in advance.
By the way: are the Goes images in fact accessed via DWDSat manager or
or is it perhaps the MSG Data Manager through which I can see them ?

Roland

Fran,
As Mario said, this question would be more appropriate on the SatSignal
Yahoo group. I've also prepared a Web page which may help:
http://www.david-taylor.myby.co.uk/software/wxsat.htm
The AVHRR Manager - processes EUMETCast files received in near-real-time
from stations around Europe. Europe coverage only (but now including
Eastern Canada). The data is within about 10-20 minutes of real-time.
Results are displayed, or can be processed further in the HRPT Reader.
DWDSAT HRPT Viewer - display the files processed by DWD and sent over
EUMETCast in their special format. Rectified to a central European
region.
Metop Manager - handle the EUMETCast data from both Metop and NOAA-18.
The Metop data is full HRPT resolution (1km pixels), and the NOAA-18 data
is GAC resolution (approx 4km pixels). Both streams of data are 24 hours
a day, and provide world-wide coverage, but are about 100 minute delays
from real-time. Results are displayed, and the Metop-A data can be
processed further in the HRPT Reader.
HRPT Reader - process and display HRPT files from either a ground station,
the Metop Manager, or the AVHRR Manager.
I hope that may help other people as well - there is so much data now that
it can be confusing even for the well-experienced!
Cheers,
David

Stefan,
Thanks for that information.
How exactly is the time of max radiation coded? I see decimal numbers
ranging up to about 13 - are these simply decimal hours? In UTC?

SUPPORTED DATA FILES
DWD HRPT data as broadcast over the EUMETCast DWDSAT service, in both the
newer N15.....pl4.bz2 and the previous sat01-noa_k4.tiff formats.
Example supported files:
sat01-noa_k5_cenoa_p_000_000-0611230140-ofl.tiff
n18s0611232349.pl4.bz2

specification, please let me know.

The above files very infreqent, they are coming in OK,but at times large
gap between.
Appreciate these are from non geostationary sats, unlike Met 8 images.
Is there any way or file that can tell you when to expect the pass
please.

David,
If you have the file countries.zip on your computer, extract the file
contained in the Zip archive. This file is named: Countries.dat.
Move or copy Countries.dat from where you extracted it from the Zip
archive, to the same folder where you placed the program executable file:
DwdHrptViewer.exe.
Run DwdHrptViewer, and select the Setup tab. If the correct file name and
directory do not appear in the "boundary path" box, use the Browse button
to tell the program the directory where you placed Countries.dat, and
select Countries.dat from that directory. Press Open once the
countries.dat is selected to register its location with the DWDSAT HRPT
Viewer.
Close down and restart the program, and you should have boundaries.
If you want to use an existing copy of Countries.dat, as Douglas mentions,
you can browse for that instead.
Cheers,
David

David,
In DwdHrptViewer (which I assume you are using) go to set-up and where it
says Boundary Path, put in the location of your countries.data file. For
me it is in my WXtrack folder so for example :- C:\WXtrack\Countries.dat
Just browse to the location.
Hope that helps.
Douglas.
Trying without success or expertise, to load countries dat file onto
DWDSAT images.
Have got the file download on computer.
Any help appreciated. David.
My program for visualising the HRPT images produced by DWDSAT has been
updated. There is now an extensive set of batch-mode options to allow
automated processing of these images. For more details, please see:

Paul Blight's suggestions are still under consideration - please respond
to his suggestions if you want these enhancements.

Hello
Some time ago I made the program RotateDWDSAT to rotate the maps that
are received by DWDSAT. To know which files were rotated I changed the
extension from .tiff to .png.
I have noticed that reading .png files in Visual Basic gives a lot of
problems. Therefore I have made a second program RotateDWDSATjpg. It
rotates and change the name of all files from .tiff in .jpg.
You can download the new program from the download section of my site
www.fredvandenbosch.nl
Greetings
Fred
Still Experimenting David - :-)
Another idea - Is there anyway to have a thermal Palette on the IR Images.
At this time of year there are only a few passes unfortunately that can
utilize the true excellent False Colour and RGB Tabs.
It would be nice to have a Thermal IR Tab too to get some colour, as at
present all the IR ones are just greyscale ?
I am sure you do not want to make the program to complex, but I think this
would make a useful addition.
A thought occurred to me that the program needs to have similar attributes
as your HRPT Reader ? (In terms of Presentation of the data at least ) Is
that possible ?
Many Thanks
Paul

The settings I use are;
Red Gamma = 1
Green Gamma = 1
Blue offset = -10
Blue gain = 1.1
...with bouindaries set on "light"
I tend to alter the settings to suit the particular image but the above is a
sort of "base line"
