Hi Thomas, et al.

Well, the changes I've made to 'dwpl.dwm' should
not affect D6, but I suppose it would be good to
verify that.  <g>

BTW, can you tell us a bit about that "inno" thing?
Just a brief description, it's too difficult to
understand properly when using a machine translation.

Joe.

Hi Joe,

i use D6 and DWPL and i have to change my computer in the next weeks too. So if
there is a working installation on the net, it is very nice for me.

But does you know inno Setup

Thanks for the explanation, Laszlo.

So, if I understood correctly, this example says :
1. Exclude these files from future 'exec()' calls.
2. Clear the "exec() file list/group", so next time
    we use 'F()', we start a fresh "file list/group".

I'm sure the above grammar & nomenclature is horrible,
but I'm just trying to get this clear in my mind. <g>

Joe.

okay, I guess the problem is that some units must be compiled before
others and wildcard matching stuff (*.pas) does not propose any
particular order of the returned list of filenames. This is one reason
why some units must be specified separately. However a ``hidden''
feature of F() is that all the filenames it sees are stored in a nice
big collection and none of the files present in this list will be ever
processed again during exec commands. So the only reason of this "#"
prefix stuff is to allow specification of files that won't be stored
in the "file-group" but will be put into this global ever-growing list
of filenames.

Man, this dwpmake thing is really stupid. My only excuse that I was
much younger back than when I was ``inventing'' this crap...

OK, as I stated earlier, I believe this updated
'dwpl.dwm' file provides better functionality for
D5 Standard.

I have added provision for some code building for
D5S, although it is all bypassed at present.

I'm not sure how much of it _should_ build with D5S,
I had expected the stuff from section "sys67_okay"
("finish_d45sys" falls through to this) would be OK,
however, it bombs out due to a "$WARN" directive in
'SysUtils.pas' and an undefined identifier "sLineBreak"
in 'SysConst.pas'.

BTW, building of 'System.pas' and 'SysInit.pas' is
done earlier in section "d45sys", and is bypassed
in the case of D5S, separately from the above.

One other thing I noticed in working on 'dwpl.dwm'
is that the "D5 pre-built binaries" package doesn't
include a 'WDosComCtrl.dcu', although that is one
of the units built by 'dwpl.dwm'.

So I'm curious to know whether the stuff in the
"sys67_okay" section _should_ be able to build
under D5S and whether 'WDosComCtrl.dcu' is supposed
to be included in the "D5 binaries" package.

Finally, do let me know if I've made any major
mistakes with the updated 'dwpl.dwm'. <g>

Joe.

Thanks for that, Laszlo,

I didn't see any documentation on this stuff in the
DWPL package, however I did find that 'dwpmake.txt'
file you mentioned in the SourceForge CVS, so now
I'm not quite so lost. :-)

OK, so it seems the F() function builds some sort
of internal list of file names (group), and C()
clears it. (Well, at least that's my interpretation
of the information below.)

So, does that mean that the following lines from
'dwpl.dwm' (section finish_d45sys) are dummies? :

F(0, '#..\..\source\rtl\sys\System.pas', '#..\..\source\rtl\sys\SysInit.pas')
C(0)

Also, I'm not clear about that "#" prefix stuff.
What's the purpose of adding a file that way, if
it is excluded from "executing commands"? What
other way do file groups get used? I'm thinking
here that "executing commands" means the "exec()"
stuff.

Anyway, I've modified the 'dwpl.dwm' file based
on what I think it should do for D5 Standard,
which is simply to move a couple of files around
and delete some non-applicable ones. I'll upload
it shortly.

Regards,
Joe.

Hello,

the following is taken from dwpmake.txt which by the way is hopefully
still present somewhere in the CVS repository:

Commands are executed on a group of files. Management of these
"file-sets" is done by some built-in functions.

"F([group_no,]file_spec1,file_spec2,...)" adds the specified files
into the specified group. Group IDs are integer numbers in range 0-15.
If it's omitted 0 is assumed. Wild cards are naturally allowed. You
might want to have a look at wildc.c for details about our
mask-matching routine. Each file is added only once into each group.
If the first character of a string is # then the files will be added
into the group but they will be skipped when executing commands.

example:
F('#source\rtl\sys\variants.pas','source\rtl\sys\*.pas')
(note the order of the parameters! since the second one includes
variants.pas it must be specified before if we want to use the 'skip'
attribute.)

"C([group_no])" clears the content of the specified group (default is 0).

"gexcl(0)" will turn off the usage of the global exclusion list. This
means that files that were already used in one group can be added to
another or to the same group after clearing it. By default this
setting is on so no file will be processed twice during execution of
the script. "gexcl(1)" will turn it on again.

"exec(groupno,command)" will execute a program using CreateProcess.
If it failed or the exit-code was non-zero dwpmake is aborted. The
"$<" sequence in `command' will be replaced with a filename. If the
first argument is -1 no file group is used and $< substitution will
not be done.

example:
F('*.pas')
exec(0,'dcc32 $<')

Best regards,
Laszlo

Hi all,

I've got a new computer recently and am slowly

One such application/tool is of course, DWPL.
However, I want to modify the 'dwpl.dwm' file

"D5 binary" package only installs the 'lib'
directory, so I want to make the main package
work better for D5 standard).

Anyway, what I'd like to know is, what do the
"F()" and "C()" functions in 'dwpl.dwm' do???

Joe.

I am sorry, I not finiched the DWPL-Code yet. I work on windows in this moment.

But i can send my DLL-dpr for windows. It is simple to go to DOS, i think.

If you have understand this and you can work with it, i can send you the

Hello,

the given link does not work.

BTW cross-posting between the dwp and wdosx groups is usually not a
good idea since most dwp people read both lists.

I downloaded the file, but the SB routines are closed source, so I
can't add SB16 support. I tried to write my own unit, but it
doesn't work (and I don't know why). That's my first unit for
WDOSX/DWPL, so I'm not sure that it's written correctly. Can you
check it? The procedures are written in pure assembler, but they're
commented line-by-line.

I use this server as storage for files, so please download them
directly, because they aren't available from the main site.

Umm, yeah it could be included in dwpl, but some docs and a test

No, since the buffer is 8192 bytes long.

Hi Laszlo,

after reading your WDosLfn, i have create a class for the printer queue of DOS.

Could you put it to the Bazar or to the WDOS-Directory.

Hi All,

i think, i found a bug in the WDosLfn routine:

1) We alloc a 512Byte Buffer in dosmem!

initialization
   r.ss:=0;r.sp:=0;
   dpmiallocdosmem(512,rseg,rsel);      <<<< 512 Bytes

2) In LFindFirst we create a pointer after the Buffer!

function LFindFirst(path:shortstring;attr:word;var sr:TSearchRec):word;
var
   Src, Dest: Pointer;
begin
   r.ax:=$714E;
   r.cx:=attr;
   r.si:=0;
   r.ds:=rseg;
   r.dx:=0;

   Dest := Pointer(RSeg shl 4);
   Move(Path[1], Dest^, Length(Path));
   Mem[RSeg shl 4 + Length(Path)] := 0;
(*
   move(path[1],mem[rseg shl 4],length(path));
   mem[rseg shl 4+length(path)]:=0;
*)
   r.es:=rseg;
   r.di:=512;                               <<<<<<< after the buffer
   dpmirealmodeint($21,r);
   if (r.flags and 1)<>0 then result:=r.ax else begin
     result:=0;

     Src := Pointer(RSeg shl 4 + 512);
     Move(Src^, Sr.FindData, 320);         <<< We read after the Buffer
.

.

Is this correct?

Hi Laszlo,

Hmmm ... You say "copying the sources would not make any
sense", which implies that 'build.bat' only builds the units, nothing
more. In that case, you are right, there is no point in 'build.bat'
copying anything, regardless of the Delphi version. I guess it's
because 1.6.0 had a base directory of "SourceForge\dwpl_inst\",
that I figured that, for non-D5S installations, 'build.bat' then copied
everything to the user's DWPL directory.

Regards,
Joe.

Hello,

the Readme is now available directly from the Files section at
SourceForge.

Also dwpl260.zip has been replaced with a new archive that does not
have the unneccessary folder structure.

copying the sources would not make any sense. All the copied stuff is
needed to build the DWPL units. At the moment the suggested setup
procedure for D5 standard edition is:
1. unzip dwpl???.zip somewhere
2. execute dwpl???br5.exe and install it into the same folder
and you're done. Of course there is no need to run build.bat in this case.

> Also, what do you think of the idea for "readme.txt" to be

This will be done soon.

Judging from your modified readme.txt I think there is some
misunderstanding regarding what build.bat does.

There is no need to copy anything after one has extracted the zip
archive somewhere. The purpose of build.bat is to generate the units
in the `lib' folder. The user chooses the final place of DWPL when
he/she extracts the zip file. Nothing is modified outside this
directory during the execution of build.bat.

Best regards,
Laszlo

Hi Laszlo,

You've misunderstood slightly. The "dwplXXX.zip" archive would
_not_ include the pre-compiled binaries. The only change I am
proposing is (AFAIK) to the build script. Presently, this does
nothing for the user if the Delphi version (ie. D5S) is unable to
build the DWPL, just gives a message saying to "use the
pre-compiled D5 binaries". What I am proposing is simply that
the build script should copy the source files, etc. to the user's
DWPL directory (just as it does with other Delphi versions), then
remind the user to _also_ "use the pre-compiled D5 binaries". In
other words, running "build.bat" could/should be a standard step
in the installation of the DWPL with all versions of Delphi. Running
"dwplXXXbrX.exe" would of course remain as an additional step
where appropriate (as indicated to the user by the build script).
This would also solve the "directory depth" problem (eg. 2.6.0)
and would allow, if desirable, for the "dwplXXX.zip" archive to
become a self-extracting "dwplXXX.exe" archive.

Also, what do you think of the idea for "readme.txt" to be
available for download at SourceForge?

Joe.

Hi Joe,

unfortunately not, the file type is selected from a list during
upload and is not customizable. It is only used to indicate the type
(executable/zip/etc.) and the platform (in case of executable).

The solution might be renaming dwpl260br5.exe to something like
dwpl260_binaries_for_delphi5_standard.exe.
:)

Of course it does not include anything besides the precompiled stuff
but at the moment you don't need anything else to build your own apps
with dwpl. But if you want the demos, etc. then you need the zip too.

> I found that "dwpl260.zip" had a deeper directory structure than

Hmm, this could be a little mistake of the person (hello Immo :)) who
created the release. Of course there should not be a SourceForge and
dwpl_inst folder.

>that all users would download "dwplXXX.zip" and run "build.bat",

Ah yes, there should be one zip that contains everything then and
everyone could just run a build.bat. However the main problem is the
size of the complete archive. So why should everyone download the pre-
compiled stuff even if they use D6 or 7?

	 Well, done!

Hi folks.

Yes, this confusion is not surprising. From the "www.dwp42.org"
Download page, clicking on the "Additional Details" link provides
some information about what should be downloaded for the
respective version of Delphi. However, the SourceForge download
page only shows the following information :

Package
dwpl

Release & Notes   |   Date
2.6.0   2004-04-03 14:00

Filename   |   Size   |   D/L   |   Arch.   |   Type
dwpl260br5.exe   2396593    397    i386   .exe (32-bit Windows)
dwpl260.zip   2346938    593    i386   Source .zip

Although it is possible to click on the "2.6.0" to see the
release notes, this may not be obvious. Furthermore, the
information provided in these release notes is not as clear
and simple as the above "www.dwp42.org" information,
particularly in the case of "Delphi 5 Standard" (the
"www.dwp42.org" information states that both files are
required, whereas the release notes imply that only the
"dwpl260br5.exe" file is required/applicable).

Is it possible to change the "Type" string above (SourceForge
page) to indicate what the particular file is required/used for?
For example, the "dwpl260br5.exe" file Type string might say
"Unit Patches, for D5S" and the "dwpl260.zip" file Type string
might say "Source & Build, for D5+". (Perhaps the "Type"
strings are not configurable, just a "pick list" at SourceForge?)

Another thing that would help matters, would be to have
the "readme.txt" file available for download too. This would
be very obvious for a potential user; they could quickly
download this and see what else they needed to download
and get an idea of what to expect. I have attached a modified
version of the 2.6.0 "readme.txt" file below, which may be
satisfactory (BTW, please check for accuracy;-).

I assumed the "dwp42.org" information was correct, so I
downloaded both files (I couldn't find a utility to view the
contents of "dwpl260br5.exe", so I couldn't determine if
this also included the source files).

I found that "dwpl260.zip" had a deeper directory structure than
previous releases, all starting at "SourceForge\dwpl_inst\", so
I couldn't simply unzip it to my DWPL directory. Instead, I had
to unzip to a temporary directory, then copy the files to my
DWPL directory. Perhaps this deeper directory structure was
unintentional?

Before copying the above files, just to see what would happen,
I ran "build.bat", which merely reported that I needed to "use
the pre-compiled D5 binaries". It did not seem to copy any of
the source files, although I presume that for other versions
of Delphi it does so, then builds the DWPL units. Laszlo, to
assist new users in particular, perhaps the batch file (with
dwpmake) should copy the source files, even when the Delphi
version is unable to build the DWPL units? In other words, such
that all users would download "dwplXXX.zip" and run "build.bat",
then if appropriate/required, also download and run "dwplXXbrX.exe".

Joe.

Instructions to install DWPL for Delphi 5, 6, 7
===============================================

These steps are required to install DWPL from sources (file "dwplXXX.zip").
If you used a self-extracting installer (file "dwplXXX.exe") and chose to
build DWPL during installation, then steps 1-4 (1-3;-) are already done.

1. Extract all files with sub-directories from "dwplXXX.zip" into any folder.

2. Go to the folder where you extracted the files and run "build.bat".
    Note, you cannot build DWPL with Delphi 5 Standard; instead, copy all
    files with sub-directories to your chosen DWPL folder (eg. "c:\dwpl"
    or "c:\progra~1\borland\delphi5\dwpl").

3. Select the Delphi version for which you want to build this DWPL
    installation. Note, for Delphi 5 Standard, download instead the
    pre-compiled binary patches (file "dwplXXXbr5.exe") and run this
    file to generate your DWPL units for D5.

4. Pray for a successful build-process. :-)

5. Take a look at the documentation, the demo projects and the source ;-)

To reuse a DWPL installation with another Delphi version
========================================================

Since the lib folder will contain units compiled with a specific Delphi
version and in some cases the original DWPL sources (in the source folder)
are modified special care is needed if you want to switch to another
Delphi version. Note that you can just extract the original zip into
another folder and use that with another version of Delphi.
Or go to DWPL's root folder and run "build -restore". Then run build.bat
again to rebuild everything.

Other notes
===========

The documentation is at doc\dwpl.chm in html help format. On old Win95/NT
systems the HTML Help control and such stuff may be missing, in this case
update your system, I think this thing is also downloadable separately from MS.

The folder "source\rtl\tp" may contain code which is not part of
DWPL, but is useful for Delphi+WDOSX development even without DWPL.

The `bin' folder contains the binaries of WDOSX 0.97 beta 2 but the WDL files
are _heavily modified_ and are unofficial.
They are taken from the ????/??/?? release of k32.zip.
This means that automatic long filename support is included in kernel32.wdl.

And it also means that DWPL now *requires* these modified WDL files! It won't
work with any official WDOSX releases.

Various example programs can be found in the demos directory.

You can (partially) build almost all demos by building all projects in the
project group demos\builddemos.bpg.
But please read demos\readme.txt before doing this.

The networking stuff has its own documentation in PDF format, it's in doc\net.
You can use Acrobat Reader or Ghostscript+GSView to browse it.

I installed the GExperts, and I'm doing everthing
the movie says... but when I run the app, a console
window opens, and a normal window appears... it still
runs as a normal Windows' application :_( What else do
I need? I have gone thru the movie several times, but
keeps giving me the black console window and the
normal window.

Marco Alvarado:

GExperts is not a part of dwpl, it's a independent project, you can
download it from here:
