All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken:
The crownless again shall be king.

Cool Site:
Donate Your Old Phone
It's estimated there are 23 million inactive cell phones. If you have
an old one, instead of selling it on eBay, using it as a paperweight,
or hoping time turns it into a collector's item like early AOL
installation disks (honest), consider donating it to a worthwhile
charity or cause. Just about every major city runs at least one (and
usually more) donation programs throughout the year benefiting
hometown organizations. So do companies like Radio Shack, SprintPCS,
and Motorola. You can find out more about their donation programs on
their Web sites, or call your provider, local cellular store, or even
fire up your favorite search engine and look for "donate cell phone."
Finally, the not-for-profit Wireless Foundation
(http://www.wirelessfoundation.org) is involved in several worthwhile
donation programs.

From EMAZING:
Pump Me Up
In "Hostage," the new thriller from Robert Crais, a pivotal character
trapped inside a house is secretly talking to the police when,
wouldn't you know it, her cell phone conks out! With no extra battery
or recharger, she was sunk. Luckily, you'll never be in this
situation (well, at least not the dead battery scenario), if you fork
out $59.95 for AladdinPower (http://www.aladdinpower.com/, 813/975-
7177). The sleek, silver device looks like a hi-tech handgrip or
Jetson corkscrew, but it's actually a handheld generator! Run a cable
from the device to most cells phones, then start squeezing. A minute
or two of squeezing juices up your phone with enough power to make an
emergency call.

Learning Circuits: GUIDELINES FOR BUYING E-LEARNING SERVICES
The old adage caveat emptor certainly applies to the current e-
learning marketplace. Many start-up e-learning companies have failed
or have been absorbed into other companies. Consulting firms will
help companies develop a strategy and select tools, but their prices
are often steep and their strategic alliances with suppliers cause
concerns about objectivity. So how can an e-learning manager navigate
the supplier landscape to build a sound e-learning strategy and a
scalable, flexible architecture?

USA Today: CISCO CHIEF: FUTURE MAY LIE IN VIRTUAL NETWORKS
The Internet has overachieved my expectations. (But) I would argue

Internet. One will be a virtual network organization, which is a key
part of our message at Comdex.

likely to engage in student-centered practice and use computers for

ONLINE UNIVERSITY OFFERS LANGUAGE FLUENCY COURSES
eWeb University, a platform and content provider for elearning and
corporate knowledge management, has recently introduced courses in
Indian languages, including Hindi, Kannada, Teluga, Bengali, Tamil,

$75 per course package and consist of 25-28 lessons that entail

David Weinberger: DEAD TREES AND COMMITTMENT
This is the most fundamental part of the publishing model that the
Web hasn't changed: books are published when they're done. But, as
books increasingly become electronic — which will happen
practically all at once when the first mass market, usable e-book
device is released — that part of the publishing model will fall
also. Authors will of course correct errors after the book has been
released, but they'll also revise and expand the book as often as
they want to. A set of conventions will emerge that will let the book
become a long conversation with engaged readers. That's what many
books have always wanted to become.
