Clicking on the little keyboard icon beside the mouse icon until it
reads 'AA' will give you a normal keyboard.
Setting it to 'Á' should give you vowels with fadas when you double
strike a vowel,
This is where it get's complicated!
This feature should work perfectly in the Easyreader built in Word
Processor.
If you're using Easyreader with other programs how well this feature
performs depends on a lot of factors: The program, it's version, the
OS (I think) and what country your computer thinks it's in!(really).
Try it out with a few different programs and confirm the info above
on what works and what doesn't.

My serial number has been sorted out now. But I still have a problem: how to
type with the traditional keyboard. When I doublestrike a vowel, the vowel
just disappears, and the same happens to a consonant if I append an h. is
this a problem anyone recognizes?

I believe the way easyreader registers has changed over the years. If
you bought yours 2-3 years ago you are likely to have been affected.
If you email your info below together with your serial number to:

they'll set you up with a working

You should have the version 1 and version 2 files in the same

Hello. I bought Irish for Life 2 or 3 years ago, and my serial number
worked then, but after a couple of hard drive formats I decided to try
to download and get version 2 working. I first loaded Easy reader from
the CD, but found my password/serial number no longer works. Also when

directory? It is immaterial to me at the moment, as I can't get Easy

ok, anois fadhb eile. b'fhéidir gur mise an amadán, ach tá fadhbanna
agam ag íoslódáil ER2. seo mar a tharla sé--
ar dtús báire, rinne mé iarracht é a íoslódáil, ach ní raibh WinZip ar
mo ríomhaire. so fuair mé leagan triall WinZip. ceart go leor.
ansin, rinne mé iarracht eile...obair sé sa deireadh, ach ní raibh sé
éasca. tharla rud éigin ní thuigim mar sin nílim in ann é a chur in
iúl i gceart... anois, is féidir liom ER2 a úsáid ach gach uair a
dhúnaim an clár, fuairim an preabfhuinneog céanna a fuar mé leis an
comhad a "unzip"! agus is féidir liom éalú as sin, ach nuair a chuirim
tús leis an clár arís, íoslódtar an clár athuair! tá sé an cráite!
agus má tá orm é sin a dhéanamh gach uair...
an féidir liom ER2 a bhaint as an ríomhaire seo agus triail eile a
dheanamh chun é a chur ann i gceart?
abair liom! mark

Rinne mé scrúdú fríd mo ríomhaire ag c:\Program Files\Reader agus tá
irishtólkit.exe agus easyreader.exe agam. Tá easyreader.exe níos
déanaí agus mar sin de silim nach bhfuil ga ar irishtoolkit.exe níos
mó. Má tá fonn ort is féidir leat é a chuir ait éigin eile ar do
ríomhaire go sealadach.
Dúirt na ER daoine ag an lainseáil inné go mbeadh leagan úr ER
(easyreader.exe) ar fail in cúpla seachtain le úsáid in éad an
irishtoolkit.exe.
Idir an dá linn silim go bhfuil orainn lan ar aghaidh le
irishtoolkit.exe.

The easyreader spellchecker is great and clever but should really
only be used with one paragraph at a time. Also note it's not great
at maintaining any fancy text formatting so you should avoid
spellchecking a paragraph with different bits of formatting. Try it
out on a copy of your document to get a feel for how it works.
Also there is an important (but rare) bug you should be aware of when
using the spellchecker which is easy to avoid.
This problem only seems to apply to Verbs.
When doing a spellcheck double clicking on red words causes a list of
options to appear.
To fix the spelling error tick on the correct word from this list.
This is fine.
You can also click on the word to see its meaning. This is fine.
If you click on a word to see it's meaning you will get an answer
box. You can click on any word in this and it will insert this as a
correction. This is fine.
If the answer box is a verb clicking on the undercored '1' will take
you to the cojugation of the verb. Normally in er dragging across the
desired verb conjugation will insert it in your document. In this
instance instead of fixing the misspell in the spellchecker it will
replace the whole of the spellcheck area in your original document.
So, all you have to remember is don't get too clever when doing a
spellcheck. Only go as far as the answer box to find fixes for verbs.
Does anyone have comments on spellchecking?
Michael Doherty
Níor thuig mé an teachtaireacht seo i gceart.
An féidir liom an ‘toolkit’ a scriosadh amach, agus leanúint ar aghaidh
le ERII amháin?

Until the final version 2 is available for download if you have this

Tá súil agam go bhfuil tú sasta leis an leagan seo d'ainm
"Mícheál". Chur mé an leagan nua ó Easyreader ar mo
ríomhaire cúpla bomaite ó shin gan stró ar bith ( sin go
hiontach , mar ní saineolaí mé ag baint le cúrsaí
riomhairí ) Ach níl an t-am agam anois triail a bhaint as go
dtí níos moille ach sin ráite, tá mé ag súil go mór
leis. I dtús baire shíl mé go raibh an sean leagan go hiontach
agus saor go leor , mar cheannaigh mé i nGleann Cholm Cille é
cúpla bliain ó shin agus is é mo bharúilse féin go bhfuil
sé iontach úsáideach do dhaoine ag leibhéal ar bith. Go
raibh maith agaibh arís , tá a fhios agat cé chomh deas atá
sé le rud éigin saor in aisce a fháil , mar seo. Cosúil le
um Nollaig. Is dócha go mbeidh mé i dteagmhail leat i ndiaidh
tamallín eile nuair a fhaighim seans é a úsáid.

You are being sent this message because you have registered as an
Easyreader User and are entitled to a free upgrade.
Version 2 of the Irish Language software, which has been under
development for the past two years has now gone to print with CD's
available in the next couple of weeks.
You can upgrade you installation to version 2 by going to
http://www.irishforlife.com
and going to the 'update' link.
You will find Version 2 has a much simpler and accessible user
interface as well as enhanced features.
You may even want to pass comment on the user group forum:

Good Luck

A Chairde,
[English version below]
Tá grúpa bunaithe thall ag http://groups.yahoo.com/group/caintrosmuc/
a bhfuil de chuspóir aige staidéir a dhéanamh ar Chaint Ros Muc, an
leabhar agus na taifid a rinneadh sna 60í.
Scéalta an-suimiúla atá iontu, agus beidh seans againn Gaeilge
labhartha a chleachtadh – idir ag éisteacht agus ag caint. Tá rithim
bhreá nádúrtha le cloisteáil ó Ghaeilge na dtaifead, agus tá chuile
fhocal dhe scríofa sa leabhar.
Beidh muid ag obair mar fhoireann – níos sásúla ná bheith i t'aonar ar
ndóigh. Bheadh an grúpa feiliúnach d'éinne a bhfuil Learning Irish,
nó cúrsa eile dhá leithéid, léite aige cheana.
Ach ní gá bheith líofa. Má tá Gaeilge cineál ciotach againn, mara
mbíonn muid in ann Gaeilge labhartha a thuiscint chomh éasca sin, má
tá blas uafásach ar ár gcuid Ghaeilge, tá súil againn na deacrachtaí
sin a réiteach thrí obair in éindí le chéile!
Má tá suim agaibh, nó má tá sibh in ann cuidiú linn, beidh fáilte
romhaibh.
Éamon
A group has been set up over at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/caintrosmuc/ to study Caint Ros Muc, the
book and recordings that were made back in the 60s.
They contain really interesting stories, and we'll have the chance to
practise our spoken Irish – both listening and speaking. There's a
lovely natural rhythm to the Irish in the recordings, and every word
is transcribed in the book.
We'll be working as a team – more pleasing than working on your own,
of course. The group would be suitable for anyone who has already
read Learning Irish, or a similar course.
But there's no need to be fluent. If our Irish is a bit clumsy, if we
can't easily understand spoken Irish, if we speak Irish with some
awful accent, then we hope to fix those problems by working together.
If you're interested, or if you can help us, then you'll be welcome.
You may all like to know the next version of Easyreader is in it's
final stages of preparation. There is some final bug testing and
preparation of the help files taking place.
The new version is much simpler to use with a clean interface and
easy
access to commands. It is now more or less fully usable and
functions
happily alongside the old version so that you can move over gradually
if you wish. You will probably however find the new version so much
more usable that you will quickly cease to use the old version.
YOU CAN HELP!
If you're interested in getting your hands on the pre release version
then as as existing owner you can;- for the price of reporting any
outstanding bugs!
You need to email the following information:

Isn’t there a contact email address on the website. Contact them there
and I’m sure they’ll help.
I had a problem transferring from one PC to another, and they sorted
that straight away.

Have you had any headway in getting ER working again?
WRT your list of words you could just send the list to ER but I
expect you would get the integration of the words into the ER
dictionary more quickly if you first did a check for duplicates. How
many words are in your list?

As I pointed out , there are 25000 words in the focloir.MDB, but not all are
separate entries. I have read that to learn a language fluently requires
10,000 words, but declined/conjugated forms of the same headwords cannot be
included as separate in this count. I wonder how many headwords are in ER?
Have you seen any handy list of the most frequent 10,000 headwords in Irish?
(I have similar lists for Chinese, Russian, Finnish and Swedish, but can't
find one for Irish.)

Can I ask another question? I see that after I updated the dictionary, I
have a focloir.mdb which is 8MB and a dict.mdb which is 1.3MB. As I
explained in another post, the programme now has an error and I can't use
it. But I can open both of these MDB files in Access. If I made vocabulary
lists in Excel, I should be able to import the words into the MDB files in
Access, right? Is there any link between the focloir.mdb and the dict.mdb,
or do they need to be separately updated (I see they both have about 25000
words in)? I am thinking of creating vocab lists for Mícheál Ó Siadhail's
Learning Irish (see my Yahoo group, groups.yahoo.com/group/coisfhairrge) and
merging them into the dictionaries in the reader. But the fact that the
English and Irish dictionaries are separate is a complication. Also, the
existing dictionaries contain many multiple entries, for example, in
focloir.mdb uasal is in as "gentleman, aristocrat" and separately as
"noble", and so on. I think the existing dictonaries could do with a
de-dupe. And if I merged my files into the dictionary databases, a further
de-dupe would be required. How can I manage dialectal differences? Spoon is
in the dictionary as spúnóg, and I think the standard plural is spúnóga, but
Learning Irish gives the forms as spúnóig and spúnóigeannaí. I suppose such
variations need to go in as separate entries? Also, once I merge my files
into the MDBs, then I won't be able to submit an update to the programme's
maker, will I? Or do I just send him the MDBs and let him de-dupe after
comparing to his files?

Hello. I updated the dictionary today, and now have an error message
that won't go away. it says: "Insufficient space allocated to special
spellcheck table". It doesn't matter how many times I say OK, it won't
go away, and so I cannot use the Easy Reader programme. I have 12GB
free on my harddrive. Should I uninstall Easy Reader and install again
from the CD?
I always have to cut and paste into Word, each time I try to "save as"
it tells me to "set focus" on the document, and then try "save as"
again. I suppose my question is...... how do I "set focus" on a
document?
Cheers if anyone can help me with this!!
