Paul,

Very Interesting!! I have a ton of items like this. Mostly appointments.

What is Watchdog and how do I get it?

Thanks,

Manny

My breath is taken away by the size of your ECCO file Peter! The largest
file
I've ever had before pruning was 10 Mbytes. I am interested to hear how much
computer memory you have and what level processor you have to handle 42
Mbytes.

I do have some interesting information to share with everyone, although I am
not sure it applies to your situation. I think in your case, it's a matter
of
the objects you save -- they generally take considerably more file space
then
text. Like others have stated, I use separate Ecco files for other
subjects.
In my main file, I keep a daily log of my business activities i.e. phone
contacts, meeting notes, letters out, info received plus I have about 1550
phone entries. My log generally covers a minimum of two years worth of data.

** Now for my discovery**: I synchronize my file with the Palm Pilot, as
almost everyone does. The other day I did a Global Search, that is I did a
"Find / Entire File" without having a filter in place or text showing. It
took a couple and minutes and EVERYTHING in my file came into Search
Results.
Low and behold I found literally THOUSANDS of duplicates of various items
that were generated by hotsynching with the Palm Pilot.

I used Watchdog.exe on my file (thanks to Nick Gordon) and the value I had
for "IOU" or Item Outline Units before I noticed the duplicates was 32,415
items using 7.15 Mbytes. The size of my whole Ecco file was 9.52 Mbytes.

AFTER I cleaned out the duplicates my Item Outline Units dropped to 17,090
using 5.60 Mbytes. The size of my whole Ecco file dropped to 8.02 Mbytes.

I am not sure how all this came to be, but I have been checking every couple
of days to make sure those duplicates don't show up again.

I don't know if anyone can benefit from this knowledge, but it sure helped
me.

Paul
