Problem Solving using Evolutionary Computation - 2004
=========================================
An Intensive 5-Day Course
The Centre of Excellence for Research in Computational Intelligence and
Applications (CERCIA) will be running an intensive 5-Day course on
Evolutionary Computation from Monday, 19th of Janauary to Friday, 23rd of
Janauary, 2004.
This course assumes no background in Evolutionary Computation and builds a
rigorous foundation from scratch. The course is especially useful for those
who are working in Industry and wish to get practical skills that will help
them solve complex problems to which no satisfactory solutions exist. The
participant is introduced to Evolutionary Computation and is coached by our
team of experts to solve problems like: -
++Parameter Tuning and Optimisation
++Shortest Path finding
++Solving problems with Multiple Objectives
++Creative Design
CERCIA is one of the world's leading centres for research in Computational
Intelligence (CI) technologies and regularly organises short courses for
students and those working in industry. These courses are taught by experts
in their respective fields and are designed to either introduce or impart
advanced knowledge in the field of CI.
Course Details
==========
This course does not assume any previous knowledge in Evolutionary
Computation. Some programming experience in an object oriented programming
language (like JAVA) is recommended but not necessary. The course begins
with a thorough introduction to the field of Evolutionary Computation (EC)
and on each subsequent day covers one application area of the technique. The
course format places great emphasis on learning-by-doing and on each day
lecture sessions are followed by tutored lab session in which the student
solves practical problems using EC techniques covered earlier in the day. We
strongly feel that on completion of this course the student will be able to
apply EC techniques to practical problems. For a detailed time-table of the
course please see overleaf.
The cost of the course is £650 (this includes Lunch and Coffee). There are
20 full scholarships (available on a first-come first-serve basis) and
several partial scholarships available to West-Midlands residents and
businesses. Partial scholarships are also available for full-time students
and academics. Please visit the CERCIA website (www.cercia.ac.uk) or contact
CERCIA for further details.
