JCT: Way back in 1994-5, there were a group of juveniles at
Carleton University who decided they didn't like John Turmel
talking about his LETSystem on too many newsgroups for their
liking. They called themselves the cabal and they had great
fun seeking out and destroying my work. It was led by a Kia
Mennie and her boy-friend Paul Tomblyn and because Tomblyn
was an NCF administrator, they could sabotage anyone's
internet communications they wanted to.

Paul Tomblyn is still in charge of my communications at NCF
and if my mailbox goes over its 1 Meg even though I empty it
almost twice a day, he jumps on any opportunity to bounce
may mail.

Anyway, in doing one my monthly trolls on the Google Search
engine for "John Turmel" I found an article by one of the
cabal detailing what happened and how I destroyed their
playground after they tangled with me. I never found out
what happened until now.

"Blurring the Distinction Between the Real and The Digital"

JCT: It describes how the cabal of internet vandals got
together, some of the mayhem they caused others and what
happened when they tangled in their confrontation with me. I
have all the archives too.

WCC: All names in this paper have been changed. This is to
respect the privacy of the individuals and the communities
being discussed.

JCT: I changed the ones I knew back. The Kira Dooley is Kia
Mennie and Royal University is my own Carleton University.
The Mike Razor may have been Paul Tomblyn. The part relating
to their demise was:

WCC: The Community Enters Real Life:
One of the most regular posters was Kia Mennie, a
comparative literature student at Carleton. Others included
were myself, the two Andrews, Chris King, and surprisingly,
several CCS hacks. The group not only had authority through
posting and identity, but also through the inclusion of the
CCS (Carleton Computing Services) representatives.
One day in February 1994, Kia decided that she would like to
meet everyone face to face. She suggested that we meet on a
campus pub on a Thursday night. It was supposed to be an
hour, but ended up lasting until closing. Somehow, after
having exchanged ideas, the group seemed to merge well. Not
only did the individuals mentioned above show up, but about
twenty other people, some known, some who were merely
lurkers.
That night was so successful, that it became a regular
Thursday night event. The "meetings" would consist of people
drinking large quantities of Upper Canada Dark Ale, Kia
trying to be queen of the table, several men trying to pick
up Kia, and discussion of the next plan or joke to be played
on line. It was at one of these meetings that the cabal was
born. The cabal lasted for about a year, and it drastically
changed the way the university ran its Usenet server...
The Cabal
The Cabal was the brainchild of a besotted Kia Mennie and a
friend of hers, Mike Razor...The role of the cabal was to
police the carleton.* newsgroups, and either flame the
perpetrators of such crimes, or to forge-cancel the post.
One of the CCS members, even created a special newsgroup for
us: carleton.students.cabal. This was intended to be a place
for us to discuss the next target, but ended up being just
another place to discuss drinking plans. Funnily enough, the
cabal always denied it's existence, even in it's own
newsgroup...
Cabal Out of Control:
Unfortunately, the Cabal newsgroup had become fairly well
known and public. At this point, one of the Andrews, now an
employee at CCS, co-opted an existing newsgroup and
moderated it. This group was alt.math.iams, a true Usenet
group, with worldwide readership. The plan was to cut off
its feed from outside Carleton University, and use it for
Cabal purposes.
The next event was the General Election of 1994. There was
(and still is) a minor political party in Canada called the
Abolitionist Party, under the leadership of John Turmel. Mr.
Turmel holds the Guinness record as the world's biggest
loser. He has lost more elections than any other person has.
His platform is unimportant, let it suffice to say that it
is bizarre. What piqued the Cabal's interest, was his
spamming of newsgroups across Canada with what was perceived
to be lunacy.

JCT: Interest-free student loans to students protesting
tuition hikes was what they considered bizarre lunacy! 8
years into the real world, I hope the kids are enjoying
paying back their student loans with interest I was trying
to save them. I hope they've got a real bad rate too.

Several members took it upon themselves, to track down and
find every single post of his, in every single newsgroup
(with the exception of politics groups, where the posts were
on topic) and forge-cancel it. Certainly it was a Herculean
task, but it was an appealing one. This was a big mistake.

JCT: No kidding. The rationale was that "spam" was also
defined not only as "non-relevant to the group" but also
"sent to too many non-relevant groups." Since I was posting
to 13 political and economic newsgroups, ncf.general,
ncf.ca.lets, ott.politics, ont.politics, can.politics,
sci.econ, sci.engr, alt.politics.greens, alt.politics.usa.
alt.conspiracy that they assumed that the LETS posts had to
be not relevant to some of those groups so, ergo, I was
guilty of spam and my info could be censored.

Paul Tomblyn, system administrator, used his power to
secretly send a cancel-bot to delete my posts all around the
world. I caught him, exposed him, complained about him but
he argued that 13 newsgroups was too many and the NCF board
agreed and reduced the number of newsgroups people could
cross-post to to 10. He's still running their NCF mail
system. And a few years later, he again had the regulations
reduced to allow only cross-posting to 7 groups. I still
post to the last newsgroups listed.

And it was not only non-relevant groups that were affected,
all groups, including the political ones. If one deleted a
post in one group, it necessarily deleted it in all. So that
statement was an out-an-out untruth. It's not how Usenet
worked and WCC should have known.

So Paul Tomblyn, Kia Mennie and the Cabal are the reason
that if you go to google.com and use the groups feature and
search for John Turmel on Usenet, you'll only find my posts
going back to 1995. All posts about interest-free financing
before then were destroyed by Tomblyn, Mennie and the Cabal.

Now, since we all know that the LETS anti-poverty life-boats
save lives, see El Paso Texas Timedollars in Edgar Cahn's
book, these stupid juveniles are responsible for having
stalled the development and propagation of LETS for years.
Imagine how things might have been different if Ecuador,
with its 100 LETS today, could have found out how to reduce
their child mortality rate with LETS like the Texans did by
reading those earlier posts and started their reducing child
mortality with their own LETS life-boats sooner?

All the extra dead children who could have been saved with a
time-currency system like in El Paso suffered demise because
of these two idiot kids who didn't understand LETS funny
money and since that made it "unwelcome," their real world
word for "spam," all they to do was label what they did not
understand "unwanted spam," and that gave them their
necessary moral right to delete the info everywhere in the
world so one else would get the "spam" they did not want to
read.

Funny, eh, how the smallest actions have such big impacts
when they interfere with someone how is avowedly trying to
prevent genocide. Same goes to all those who are fighting so
hard to stop me from invalidating the prohibition law.
They'll get their equations of responsibility worked out
some day too. Back to beating to break up the Cabal.

WCC: Mr. Turmel immediately contacted the RCMP and lodged a
complaint of electoral fraud against Kia and several others.

JCT: Actually, it was not electoral fraud. It was tampering
with my mail. They'd have been jailed for tampering with my
paper mail, why not my email. And if a major party leader
like Jean Chretien had had all his thoughts (ha) deleted,
I'm sure the RCMP would have been even more prompt in their
actions.

WCC: The RCMP was not about to lay any charges, as the laws
regarding digital communications were not clear at the time,

JCT: Yet, they were pretty clear regarding mail tampering1

WCC: but, Mr. Turmel, in the spirit of Peter Bowlerton, had
a way of annoying the authorities into action.

JCT: Of course, I posted my complaints to the RCMP in the
newsgroups just as I've posted the stories relating to
medpot so no one has any reason not to know the true up-
front story. But I never knew what came of my complaint
until now. No matter, you can never beat getting your
complaint down in writing in the hierarchy's records. It
sounded like I was firing off my ammo into the air but in
the end:

WCC: They contacted the University, and asked them to deal
with the problem. The school's solution was simple: The
usual round of account suspensions, and to seal off the
Carleton.* newsgroups from the outside. Now that the Cabal
was cut off from the outside world, its playground
drastically reduced in size, its focus changed.

JCT: No more internet sabotage by the juveniles. But they
should have informed me what they had done. I'd have
applauded, or at least, enjoyed having their toy taken out
of their hands. I'm only sad that Paul Tomblyn has still not
been punished but someday, the realization that the whole
world knows that he is the real cause LETS reached the world
later than it could have and he is the real cause some
people died that would not have.

Can you appreciate that whenever people arise to sabotage or
delay my work, I can just sit back and contemplate that
someday, Cindy Cripps-Prawak's and Paul Tomblyn will realize
that their grandchildren will get to read what they did to
cause the deaths of so many people. I actually feel sorry
for them. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes when the get
before the Pearly Gates.

WCC: All instances of online activism disappeared, and the
group went back to its original methods of control: the
denial of acceptance and approval. The groups Thursday night
meetings evolved into weekly drinking sessions (not a far
step) and no discussion of Usenet happened.

JCT: And maybe if these students had been tokers instead of
drunks, they would have realized the beautiful helpfullness
of LETS in saving a starving world, but when the
universities promote alcoholism, where are you going to find
any tokers to come out into the open and add a little
intelligence to a drunken orgy.

I remember thinking that they had cut off the carleton.*
newsgroups to bar my input! And it was actually to limit
the kids. Wish they had told me. Still it's nice to know my
adult response broke the juvenile cabal. Paul Tomblyn may be

So all those giving me a hard time as I try to save the poor
with LETS interest-free credit and the sick and dying with
legal medpot, your day of reckoning is coming too. If I can
count the nuiber now, I'm sure God will it too when the time

And all those who help me abolish the debt slavery of usury
and abolish the prohibition of medpot, they're are earning
what I define as an A-slab and that they'll have to wait for
their reward before finding out how big it is.
