The PhilGBC is presently searching ecofriendly homes to be featured on Discovery Green Planet.  Discovery Green Planet is a new channel being setup at the end of the year which will solely focus on green programming.  There is also a phenomenal amount of interest from other channels across the world who are also keen to show the series.  Each episode will feature two houses, one from America and one from the rest of the world that is a great example of how you can combine strong architectural design with strong eco-credentials. The episode will feature an interview with the owner, to find out what it is like to actually live in such a wonderful house, and then will look at the eco points.  Tentative schedule for filming will be on November 2007.

The programme will be very high spec; all shot on high definition film and using lots of sweeping jib shots and different lenses. The houses will look stunning as it is so important to get across our message that it is possible to build according to ecological principles as well as creating something amazing. Computer generated imagery will be utilized to explain various eco aspects of the house which will add a scientific credibility to the episode and help viewers to see how certain design principles have added to the eco-friendliness of the house.

For Architects, this is a good opportunity to highlight your practice and a golden opportunity to tell the world that there are great green buildings in the Philippines .

World’s Greenest Homes

We all love to poke around other people’s houses. And in World’s Greenest Homes we’re treated to a visually stunning, access-all-areas tour of some of the most extraordinary houses ever built.

From a high-tech, Venice Beach bachelor pad made of super-insulated, industrial refrigeration panels and the world’s first airtight filtered home in Bangkok, to a back-to-nature mud-brick and timber palace in Australia and a unique tree house in London, this is a unique chance to see stunning properties with really strong eco-credentials.

The Series:

Aspirational, inspiring and captivating, each half-hour leisure show features our enthusiastic presenter exploring two of the World’s most exceptional green homes.  Each episode features one hosted story (featuring North American homes) and one unhosted story (featuring homes from the rest of the world). Every episode is loosely themed to give each show an identity that our presenter can build his links around. From “homes by the sea” and “$1M properties” to “sun-powered houses” and “ultimate bachelor pads” our themes are fun, varied and accessible.

In a dynamic room-by-room tour, the presenter revels in the interior style and décor as well as the architectural boldness of each building while also uncovering the incredible green secrets behind each home. Along the way there are insights from the passionate owners and architects responsible for these dream creations as well as the designers and experts behind the incredible green credentials that make these homes so special.

Saving The Planet Can Be Cool & Chic

Our 52 featured homes take design to a new level and would catch the eye of even the most casual observer. The fact that a whole tool kit of sustainable features is hidden within their incredible walls proves that saving the planet has never looked so desirable.

Eco-friendly innovations feature throughout the series from recycled roofs to wind-powered turbines but our main focus is the ‘wow factor’ of each home – whether it’s a stunning visual element, or an ingenious practical solution. These are homes you’d kill to live in even if you don’t know your solar panels from your geothermal pumps.

Although this show revels in the glamour and the beauty of the homes on show, there’s also plenty of practical take-home information for viewers. So our presenter regularly offers simple top tips about greener living, from insulating your loft to going solar.

Style & CGI

Shot entirely on HD, World’s Greenest Homes is a lush, lavish property extravaganza. With tracking shots, the highest production values and immaculately planned moves and focus pulls, this is a show that will look absolutely amazing.

As if that’s not enough to make this show stand out, we will work with leaders in the field of CGI to add another dimension to the look of the series. Using revolutionary software we’ll be able to “see” inside walls and under floors to reveal the green gadgets and hidden technology that our presenter can’t get to.

The format might be conventional, but the look - especially the bold CGI approach - make this show unique.

Green Home Insights

·         When it comes to property, location is a buzzword the world over. But with green homes it’s doubly important. A south facing home will harvest the sun’s energy best in a cold environment while careful use of natural shade from trees or hillsides can make all the difference in a hot one.

·         For every situation there’s a wealth of green materials that can be used to build the actual fabric of the house – from ultra-modern UV-repelling glass and recycled steel to rubber, straw and even paper or mud.

·         Warmth makes a home and there are a host of green innovations to help control temperature - from thermal chimneys and thermal sun panels to geothermal pumps and radiant heating under the floor or in the walls.

·         The ultimate green homes are “off-grid”. They make their own power using devices that range from photovoltaic/solar panels to micro wind generators.

·         Fresh air is one luxury nobody wants to give up no matter how green they are. And there are a variety of ingenious solutions that keep fresh air flowing without wasting heat like energy recovery ventilators, which transfer heat and moisture between the incoming and outgoing air.
