Graduate student fellowship in marine microbial ecology
A graduate fellowship is available for a highly motivated student with an
interest in marine microbial ecology (MS or PhD) in the Marine Sciences
department (www.southalabama.edu/marinesciences/programs.html<

of South Alabama (USA) and the Dauphin Island Sea Lab (DISL) (www.disl.org<
http://www.disl.org/>).
The project will involve field and laboratory work and focus on questions
concerning the role of grazing and viral lysis in food availability to
zooplankton, the function and diversity of microbial communities in coastal
marine ecosystems, understanding the role of microbes in restoration efforts
or characterizing the role of Archaea in coastal marine systems.
The start date is expected to be August 2009.
Qualifications: The applicant must meet the requirements of the Marine
Science department at USA including GPA and GRE requirements. The applicant
must hold a BSc in biology, marine biology, microbiology, molecular biology
or a related field.
