Abstract:
The family Gobiidae is one of the most speciose fishes with approximately
2000 genera. They are diverse, common and abundant, especially in the
Indo-Pacific. Members of this family are small, cryptic and have reduced
morphology and osteology, impeding studies on their taxonomy and phylogeny.
The presentation will highlight key issues on the checklist of gobies in
Singapore, Peninsular Malaysia and southern Thailand, discuss the systematic
revision of the Acentrogobius genera complex and the monophyly and adequacy
of characters used in generic delimitation using molecular information.
