Subject: Problems with Windows 7 and EditPlus
f.mariani...
Send Email Send Email

I am new to Windows 7, so I apologize in advance if the problem is Windows and
not EditPlus.

In Windows Explorer, when I right-click a file and select EditPlus, I get a busy
icon and then nothing happens. If I select "Send to EditPlus" I get a pop-up
window "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this
computer" - I select Yes, then it works.

If I double-click a file that is associated with EditPlus - I get the pop-up, I
select Yes, it opens in EditPlus, but I also get another pop-up "There was a
problem sending the command to the program".

Any ideas? I changed the "Privilege Level" check-box for Administrator, but it
made no difference.

Also, how do you avoid the Windows 7 pop-up messages for programs that you know
are safe?

Thanks,

Francis.

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone has been able to figure out, how to handle
   'indented comment' lines?

I have 3 different types of line comments:
      1- '*' at the beginning of a line #LINECOMMENT=^!*
2- ';*' at the end of a program command line #LINECOMMENT2=;*

These two work great for these instances, however
3- I also have indented comment lines.
Where there could any number of spaces/tabs prior to the '*'
         If I remove the '^!' of '#LINECOMMENT=^!*'
I get comment shading whenever I use multiplication (*)
         command lines through the end-of-line.

Is there a way to set it up as a
      #COMMENTON= *
#COMMENTOFF=(some way to identify end of line?)

I have tried '\n', '^\n', and '\\n' but none of them work.

Does anybody know how to do this????

   Thanks,

     Arthur

The left-hand "Directory" window always sorts alphabetically, but 99% of my need
is editing "index.html" files. (and sometimes "main.html)

Sometimes, depending on how many lower-named files exist, the "index.html" is
buried way down in the bottom third of the longer listings.

NOT a big deal, but as one handicapped with old Polio limitations, is there a
way to have the directory be sorted automatically by last date accessed?

THANKS
Tom

Hi Tom,

Unfortunately, there does not appear to be a way to do so. At least none that I
could find. You may want to request that as a feature to Sangil Kim, the
developer.

Are you using the latest version of EditPlus (3.21)? I seem to remember
somewhere along the line that there was one or more fixes for Windows 7.

See if this helps:

At the bottom of the directory tab there is a drop down list. The last entry
"Custom (*.*)" which brings up a dialog box to enter a filter. Pop in
"index.html" and see if that works.

What language are you using? There are a boatload of user-provided syntax files

Oh, my apologies; I thought you wanted the sort feature *along* with the filter.
It didn't occur to me that you hadn't set the filter.

I'm glad you found it, though.

Again: thanks for the help on loading html's at top of list as a
default! :-)

One more desired shortcut:

I am running IE8 under Windoze 7, but how can I set up F12 "View
Source" tool to open EDIT+ ?

A registry edit?? Hints? :-)

THANKS!!

Casual Question - Is there a way to make the right-click menu in W7
keep "refresh" at the top also?? ;-)

I was going to say 'Tools|Preferences|General|Use EditPlus in Internet Explorer'
within EditPlus, but that apparently does not work with IE8. (That shows you how
little I use IE!) The setting in IE to select EditPlus as the HTML editor
doesn't work either, so I'm at a loss.

Hello,

I often have text to process that has repeated pairs of "  " which is
created by a perl program converting a "plain" text file into HTML.

I might have a line that looks like the following:

<span style="margin-left:2.5em">1.  American robin
        Turdus migratorius
[Male]      33</span>

which I'd like to convert into

<tr><td class="text_lf">1.</td><td>American robin</td><td>Turdus
migratorius</td><td>[Male]</td><td>33</td></tr>

Is there any way to S&R using regex the multiple pairs
Find: (\ \ )+
Replace: </td><td>

Thanks.

Hi,

I am trying to get the editplus auto complete feature to work but can't figure
how to.

I have my stx and acp files in place. I restarted editplus and refreshed the
stc/acp option but nothing happens.

The auto complete featured is supposed to insert all my closing html tags etc.

Am I missing something or is the auto complete feature only for programming
languages? It works just fine in php/javascript etc.

Thanks for any tips in advance.

You will need to modify the existing html and css acp files to match the
relevant standards, then set them to be used for those file types.

Yeah, that's the file I am using - HTML5 acp - Dave McNally (2010-07-26)).

All the files are in place in the document permanent settings, but nothing

I've considered switching as well, and am also considering some iOS
development, so I've had the same thoughts.

If I were switching I'd look at BBedit. I can't live without Save-to-FTP,
and it seems that BBedit has that.

However, if you do switch, assuming you do web development, you'll still
need a real live Windows machine for testing, and the way I work; save,
refresh, save, refresh, save, refresh... I just couldn't see switching back
and forth between machines. Also, I'm not a big fan of Safari (although,
yes, it's far better than any flavor of IE). if I knew that Chrome/Mac was
100% the same as Chrome/PC, I might consider switching, but I have a feeling
that's not the case.

Good luck, and definitely check out BBedit.

I made the switch about 4 years ago and having been an Edit+ user for about 10
years prior, I found Panic's Coda to be the one that have enough of the features
I missed from Edit+ (e.g., Remote Editing). Coda 2 has been in the works for a
while and promises to provide even more missed features (e.g., code folding).

But there are a lot of great text editors for Mac. You should try a few and
find the one that works best for you.

MacRabbit's Espresso
MacroMate's TextMate
BareBones' BBEdit
JetBrain's WebStorm/PHPStorm
etc.

This might be obvious, but have you double-checked the HTML and CSS file types
in EditPlus to make sure that they include the file extensions that you are
using? Sometimes people use non-standard file extensions.

Hello:
I switched about 5 years ago and never looked back. I still use EditPlus at
the office but at home I use a Mac. Unfortunately, there is no EditPlus version
for the Mac.

I do more than web development so I needed to look for a more flexible editor
that could support syntax and features for different programming languages. I
chose TextMate, which was a very capable editor and best of breed at the time.
Now it's a bit stale, since the developer hasn't completed a new version he
started more than five years ago (we're still waiting and hoping with now ETA).

I have tried others recently, but I find it too hard to switch once I'm used to
one. TextMate is great, and I will very much recommend it; but if you are
starting from scratch, you'll do good to test the waters on other editors as
well. Check out Coda or Espresso, which are very popular.

	 Cheers!
	 dZ.

Thanks everyone! It now works.

I deleted the acp file and created my own for testing with just a few instances.
That worked fine so I checked the exact syntax of the acp file and wrote my own.
My custom acp is perfect now, exactly fitted for my needs. :)
I guess there was some minor glitches with the acp I downloaded. It was faster
to write my own rather than go through it line by line.

Great! If you have the time, you might want to email your version to
submit@... so that it can be included on the site under User Files.
Some one else might prefer your version to ones that are already listed.

EditPlus broke my computer! There's a work-round, though.

If you associate .vbs files with EditPlus then when you open them, instead of
executing, they appear in EditPlus. No surprise there. But they also stop
working in the Windows script host. For example:

C:\>cscript filename.vbs
Input Error: There is no script engine for file extension ".vbs".

The work round is:

cscript /e:vbscript filename.vbs
