This is a group for people who are BOTH amateur radio operators AND electrical/electronic engineers. Amateur radio and electrical engineering go together, because the same basic principles of electronics apply in amateur radio and in our work. I know I can't be the first person to have thought of this.
You can think of this forum as the unofficial IEEE Amateur Radio Society.
What is this group for?
1. Discussing the finer points of homebrew projects: Only a small percentage of amateur radio operators are electrical engineers, and only a small percentage of electrical engineers are amateur radio operators. Since all of us in this forum are electrical engineers, we can discuss the finer points on how various projects work in MUCH GREATER depth than the non-EE hams. For example, we can figure out whether or not we can substitute hard-to-find parts with cheaper-and-easier-to-find parts.
2. Career networking: Everyone knows that networking is important. What advantage does networking here have over networking through other channels? We can relate to each other much more easily. Most of what you read in IEEE publications isn't relevant to you. Most of what's relevant to you isn't relevant to other people. If you're looking for a job, the people you communicate with on this list will be more likely to understand what you have done and know the right people to contact. If you are looking for electrical engineering candidates, you will find better-quality candidates on this forum than you will on other forums.
