Hi, all
Utec’s fresh roots program will be hosting a ‘local
dinner’ on august the 28th, and we hope that some of you would
like to participate.
What is a local dinner?
We will source all of our ingredients (lobsters from Maine,
butter from Vermont, heirloom tomatoes from Dracut, etc.) from as close as we
possibly can.
Why is UTEC hosting a local dinner?
UTEC’s fresh roots program runs its own organic farm
and culinary program as a way to provide job and leadership training to youth,
while also raising awareness of teens and the larger community. although
we cater regularly based on the desires of others, we wanted to create a meal
that promoted local food production. The small revenue we generate will
further help to provide opportunities for Lowell’s youth population, and
the experience they gain in the process will be invaluable.
How you can participate?
1.
You can discount or donate some food that you produce
locally (hopefully, in quantities to fill 60 servings)
2.
You can buy a ticket, come and enjoy the affair
3.
You can promote it to your csa members, neighbors,
brothers-in-law and other associates that believe in local food
Our culinary coordinator is a gourmet chef (before she was a
youth worker) and is in the process of developing a menu. We were hoping to
highlight the menu and sources in our promotional material, but wanted to put
feelers out to y’all to determine what is available. Utec will be
providing heirloom tomatoes, summer squash and cut lettuce. All else is still
in the process of being sourced. We will wait to hear from all of you
before going public.
