I estimate in ‘Growth and senescence of civilization’ (in the Files) that the
current depredation rate of global natural capital is 1.6% per annum. That high
rate cannot continue because natural capital, including oil, is becoming scarce.
Consequently, economic growth, which entails increasing growth of this
depredation rate, cannot continue. It is unsustainable.

That does not mean that we are not able to find ways to get growth in security
and satisfaction.
As the decline in resource availability becomes more fully recognized, we can
expect our culture to go through a "phase shift" from "wanting more from more"
to "wanting to get more from less."
The real question is: Who will be the pioneers in learning and living in such
times?
My bet is that it certainly will not be those who play the "woe is me,"
PYHBYLAKYAG game.
