I received this from someone I don't know, but have met. He seems to be true
to his word. I can help if you want to donate. His email originally came
from www.freecycle.ort - we had a presentation on that a few years ago.
Here goes ....
I am a business and computer science teacher at a West Philadelphia High
School. I am starting an effort to get used computer equipment in the hands
of my students. Any equipment, Macintosh, Pentium II Windows or newer will
be cleaned, refurbished, and redistributed to a family that needs it.
Monitors, printers, keyboards, mice, and other equipment is also requested.
Please contact me if you want to donate to this worthy cause. I am also
interested in partnering with local business owners to get used equipment.
Eventually I would like to establish, or work with, a non-profit or charity
to offer receipts for tax purposes, but that is not available right now. My
email is hescribner@.... I will return all emails that I get. Anyone
wishing to donate time to help refurbish equipment can also help. If you
are called to give financially, please do not offer cash, gift certificates
or gift cards to PC Warehouse, Best Buy or any other equipment source would
be great. I do not want to handle any cash or be responsible for taking
monetary donations until I am affiliated with a charity. I want to make
sure that 100% of all donations are turned around to people that actually
need them. I will take no salary for this as well. Any equipment not
readily usable will be used for parts. My effort is for basic office
functions for each family, but I am also trying to secure a source for free
or cheap access to the internet eventually.
Thanks for your help. I realize there are other groups that may have
similar missions in the area, but as I have some contacts in Philadelphia,
and I am trying to help my school's community specifically, I am keeping
this effort small and controlled for now. Hopefully some other agencies
will help too. Any advice is also welcome!!
