Having never installed w2k server how do you set up the mode i.e. admin. Is
it just the user you're logged in as. I am reasonably familiar with w2k pro.
Since there are only two of us in the house 3 sessions would be more than
enough.
Where is the ePods I-Appliance board? This is one I have managed to miss so
far.
Thanks
Ian

I believe if you run W2K Server or Advanced Server in "ordinary" mode
you can use TS sessions for a limited period of time (3 months I
think) before you need to cough up.
Alternativly you can run W2K in "Admin" mode and you can have a max of
3 TS sessions with no need to purchase.
Do a search on for terminal services on the EPOD's I-Applicance board
for more info.

Hi Guys,
I'm currently the only list moderator, which isn't great if I forget

Any volunteers/nominations/whatever for another moderator?

I have win2k advanced server but I heard there were licensing issues with
this. As it is only for home use I wanted something nice and simple. Any
thoughts on licensing?

Shmern (on this list) told me there are different voltages in some times of
CF cards. At very least this will effect battery life of Epod.

Got the orinoco silver working at home last night with the Buffalo Access
Point (though I haven't tried encryption yet). Installed by double clicking
on the .cab file as suggested.
In the next couple of days I'll see if I can get the Buffalo and/or the
Compaq WL100 cards working as well.

I think the Orinoco silver card is a Buffalo card. You need to install the
WinCE driver for the Orinoco on the ePOD before installing the card though,
then it recognises it immediately. Use either the driver from the CD or
download the latest one from their website.

For the list of different null modem cables, different types require

BEWARE!
I had a Laplink serial cable - which is described as a Null Modem cable by
some people. It doesn't work I went out and bought a brand new "Null
Modem" cable from Maplins and that didn't work either!
Eventually got one made up by mate with better soldering skills than me from
specs an it worked first time.

I installed some (non working) drivers yesterday by using wceload. Just run
wceload and then double click the xxxx.cab file with it on your CF card. Be
warned that wceload seems to delete the .cab file afterwards!

I used a cable from PCWorld (mad impulse buy when I got the first ePOD)
which works fine. Only problem is that it cost about ?14 which is a total
rip off. I think it is Belkin and it has two connectors on each end (9 pin
and 25 pin).

The included Tascal Registry editor is poo !, for want of a better word, I
downloaded registry explorer and it imports in one go, much better.

Yeah it really is a great device for the money.

Tascal did it in one go on both machines I added 2.04 to. But I had to do
the import->soft->hard twice on both.

You inspired me to go for it. Dead easy with a CF card, but does need a lot
of registry importing and a lot of reboots - just keep doing it until it
works! I also found the screen recalibrate didn't work until I'd turned off
the cursor in the registry.
All working now and *very* impressive. I didn't realise that 2.4 also does 16
bit colour. Very happy. :-)

Well I've just killed one of my ePods. I switched the thing on this morning
at 10am, been using it all day without switching it off, left it at 6pm
switched on, came back at 8:30 pm and the screen was blank. So I got the
other one out that has not been used yet and started swapping bits
over, found out that the dautherboard that drives the high voltage for the
LCD is dead.
Looks like I'll be seeing what the returns are like now.
WARNING: Watch out leaving your ePods one on for a long time!

I've been on v2 for a while now, also added ie4 and the other bits to
give v2.04, all working fine. I have also installed SpreadCE,
Calligrapher, IRCCE and the terminal app (can't remember the name and
haven't got it to work over LAN as it tries to make a call). Also I
have the Orinoco wireless card linking to gateway. All works really
well. I have ordered an IBM 340Mb microdrive to load up hacks and
othe stuff so I can upgrade all the other ePODs more easily.
BTW today I have had more requests for an ePOD than I have ePODs, I
wish I had ordered more (I seriously considered it at the time) as
the latest news on the board suggests that there will be no more at
this price. I also strongly suspect that going to Ezex will not work
out as I understood that the cost price was $500 and that they were
being sold at a huge discount to entice people to sign up.
Regards
Graham
Think I might give V2.04 a go tonight.

So how many have stayed with Ver 1.02 and how any went for Ver 2.04 ?
I was V1 until I needed to Hard reset and then I thought, what the hell I'll
go for the Biggy,
I must admit it's a better hack, what with the extra programs and all the
redundant files removed, and also it survives a Hard reset (except for a reg
import).
Great device for little money, but ATM it's a bit of a toy, until I can lay
y hands on the Wireless kit, then it'll be fantastic !
