I guess all docs have been deleted by the time I got there.

Any other locations with data / programming sheets ??

Battery holds a charge for about an hour. Screen is in good condition.
$50 plus $10 shipping. Paypal preferred. I can't get the driver to load
for the pcmcia network card. Just bought this system off of Ebay.
Someone who knows more about it can probably get it to work.
Thanks.

Yes, that does happen. When the battery is depleted and power is turned back
on, it does a hard reset to what ever it has on the CF.

The ePod is essentially a cheap touch-screen tablet. I have two, one with the
XP1 hack, the other with the BeePod hack (works better). I use them primarily
for basic web surfing and AOL IM. Extremely low on my list is building a Linux
hack for the ePod (no time to sit and noodle around with the files).

As for re-wiring the circuitry of the ePod, I have never gone that far. There
is a website: http://www.geocities.com/epodsfiles/, with some older links and
descriptions of folks who have done this kind of re-engineering.

onto the charger again, all my hacks were gone, like it had done a hard reset.

Now I'm just wanting a cheap touch screen, or even just a tablet. Is there any
way I can make this into a computer screen? I understand how it works except all
the details, like what parts it needs, where to put the parts, etc.

If anyone has done this before, can you please help?

Good Morning, Tim,

I do not have ActiveSync installed on my PC, so I just use a CF card reader
and "sneaker-net" the card from there to the ePod. You will create a directory
[for the sake of this note, let's call it XP1HACK]. The XP1APPS file you

I had uploaded the basic XP1 hack instructions to the Yahoo! group that I
got off other sites, and they work pretty well. You copy both those directories
over to the CF (then put the CF into the ePOD), and follow the remainder of the
instructions.

You may also want to download the PRISM and 128BIT encryptions programs from
the Yahoo! group files section.

Jon,

The Wavelan driver ("wlluc46.dll") is an Orinoco driver and shows the
Orinoco client manager application when running - this is what I'm
currently using.

Hi Jon,

WEP should work just fine; with the PRISM, I am using 128bit and a passkey
(not the 26bit HEX key).

As for the screen size of the PRISM2... ?

Jon <thegodling@...> wrote: Okay, so, 1

was another cpl file in there as well (intnl or something like that,
for settings). But I moved that, too, and fixed it. I then
installed RegSet.zip, and it told me that I was already running 16
  bit graphics. So that's good.

However, still can't seem to get the entire PRISM2 settings window to
show ... those extra buttons are cut off. Any way to make a window
size larger? Also, while it will take my settings for SSID /
infrastructure, whenever I try to set the WEP encryption value it
reports the "cannot communicate with driver" problem. This is
bizarre. I'm tempted to define a DMZ IP address and see if I can hit
an encryption free signal (not sure my wireless router will allow two
signals ... probably not ... that probably has to be a hard-wired
feed.) I guess the next thing to try is to remove my WEP security,
but I'm loathe to do that in the residential area I call home.

Anyone else have thoughts on this? Maybe I should go back and try
the Orinoco driver, now that I know I need to identify an *nds.dll
file when it asks me the name of the wireless card.

Ah! The control panel!

WinPC can only handle one cpl file in the /Windows directory. When you
installed the PRISM driver, it placed that control panel file in there. Easy
fix... move the PRISM cpl file to another directory (any) and reboot. The WinPC
control panel should then come back.

As for the rest... one problem at a time... I think you are going down the
right path with getting the display functioning.

It should. I can tell that it should because for the first time, the
ePod seems to recognize the card ... the lights on the card are even
blinking when it searches for the network. But then I get the error
"unable to communicate with device driver. Error=22.1400" and I have no
  idea what that means.

  :(

The prism driver configuration window is a little screwy as well (yes,
that technical term again) -- basically, there's more to the windows
than is being allowed to display -- the Scan button for example is
mostly cut off, and I only know it's scan (or something like that)
because when I click the edge of it the status reports back "scanning"
-- I'm sharp like that. I'm guessing I might need to do the hack to
16-bit graphics to see it all.

I'd try to adjust the display properties, but for some reason I can't
access the Control Panel either -- neither the Start menu nor the
  Filestor link works for that.

  Bizarre, I'm sure.

As ever, anyone who can offer assistance will be greatly rewarded by
  positive karma. :)'

Good Morning Jon!

The Prism driver is prismnds.dll (typed just like that). If you already
tried to put the wireless card in, and enter a driver name, you may need to
remove the card then go into the registry (regedit) and delete the wireless card
entry. Then once you re-install the card, type in the new driver name. (don't
forget to reboot the system after).

That should work with the Orinioco card.

I am XP1Apps hacked! Only problem seems to be getting the wireless
driver to work ... used the Prism in the Files directory, and also
tried the Orinoco 4100 driver (it's an Orinoco card) ... both install.
Orinoco driver just hangs when I try to run it, however, and the
Prism says it can't see my card. ?? But I know the ePodOne sees it
because when I plug the card in, it asks me for the name of the driver
(don't know what to put there ...)

  Thoughts?

Jon,

I use (what I think is) a Wavelan driver and type "wlluc46.dll" at the
driver prompt. It works fine for me, and the card is immediately
active when coming out of Suspend, etc.

I haven't done the XP1 hack yet, but it's on the list :-)

HTH,

Tim.

Good Morning, Jon,

I am the same way; I like to see some form of instruction or check
list to follow. Before you install any CAB file, let's hack your
system. Since your ePod still comes up with the ePod hacked OS, there
is another website I am going to point you to for the best
instructions on how to get it upgraded from there. You're going to
need some things from this site, first, though.

Get these files from our files section

128BITHPC - Allows for 128bit encryption on IE
AIM_SETUP - AOL IM! Works great!
EXPOS1XPAPPS - The WinXP (like) hack with applications
PRISM.4000.CAB - A good wireless driver.
WIN Upgrade Instructions - My notes on upgrading the E-Pod. PRINT THESE.

Then go to this website: http://www.geocities.com/epodsfiles/

This is the place with the actual instructions for hacking the
security of the ePod build to allow you to delete that OS.

Once you get all those parts in place, just follow the instructions.
Honestly, the first time I did it, it took me an hour or so, now I can
hack / rebuild an E-Pod in about 8 minutes.

CAB FILES

Once you have the cab copied to your CF, and the CF back in the slot
on the ePod, all you have to do is open up the filestor and double tap
the CAB. It should self-extract. When most installs are done, they
will delete the CAB file.

Hope this all helps.

Rade

Make it read-only then you always have it. If not, after the install the cab is
auto-deleted.

okay, I'm asking. i'm a n00b at software hacks ... if it's not a quick
and easy guide with very explicit steps, I probably can't do it. But I
learn quick.

So ... I've got the cab files ... where do I put them, and how do I
"install" the cab files?

Keep in mind this is a baseline install of the ePodsOne, I haven't
changed the OS or done anything else with it yet.

And thanks for the assitance ... as soon as I get this done, I'll work
on the XP1 hack, transcribers, and definitely VNC ...
