FIRST foils that are printed with Encad GO inks or similar pigment inks
exist for at least 6 years. The heat treatment that seals the FIRST foils
make them water resistant too. Additional lamination is done to increase
the outdoor lifetime up to 4 years.
The recent developments are solvent type inks and UV curing inks on
special printers. They don't need special inkjet coated substrates but
can print on selected vinyls and the latter even on a wide variety of
plastics.
