In this photo, the dogs are positioned ascending by age, from Lt. to Rt.
Mack is Joe's uncle (Judi's littermate), making him another member of the "family". : )
Showing each pup/dog how one wants their stock to be treated is the total key to success, IME. They learn from seeing how we treat/work and they just figure out the best way to help. However, Copper's innate (instinctual) methodical mannerism with stock is one I don't see in all others, yet he certainly stamps his pups in some way or another, this trait. It's nice to know you're seeing it within Joe.
Sometime when you get a chance, I'd love to see photos of Joe! : )
Happy 4th of July!

Hi Peg,
Nice photo! We've had so much rain nobody around here is able to get their hay in. We still have a little left from last fall and can sell it now for $5 a square bale!
Fun to see Copper and Maggie, grandparents of my new pup Foothills Joe. He has Copper's wide cheek hair! Lately I've been remembering that photo of Copper as a puppy following a chicken, because Joe's taken to rounding up the chickens in the late afternoon. He's not quite sure what to do with them yet, but he knows they're supposed to head in that time of day. He starts a little early so they go into the barn then come back out, which is great for now!
When he was eight weeks old we held him while we were bringing the turkey hen with her chicks in from the field. It was a super slow walk with lots of long pauses because the poults were young. I think Joe learned a lot on those five or six walks because he's got the nicest slow way of moving the chickens. Yea!

Date: Friday, July 3, 2009, 12:14 AMWe're busy as usual on the farm and especially trying to cut/rake/bale
hay w/o getting it rained upon. Today was the second cutting (crop)
and was able to get it all done w/o rain........ ..yeahhh!
I've made it an annual thing for me to take a group photo of the dogs
lined up on the hayrack after the last bale has been elevated/stacked
in the (barn) haymow. I then place this photo on my website (links
page).
Here's our '09 photo taken late this afternoon:
