Did you or anyone manage to build the Mozilla 1.9.1? I tried downloading and
unpacking the files from Mozilla but did not go too far from that. I wonder if
you had overcome the difficulty.

I am struggling building Firefox 3.5 (Mozilla 1.9.1) on my Windows platform.
I am using MozillaBuild tool (version 1.3) and Visual Studio 2005
(start-msvc8.bat).

The ActiveXObject is not supported. You need to declare an <EMBED> tag in your
HTML page.

I just ran a brief test on FireFox 3.1 Beta 2. It has the issue with
methods when running Esker plugin 7.96.

The issue with FireFox v2.0.0.17 still exists in FireFox v2.0.0.18. I
had tried using esker plugin 7.93 and 7.96. It does not make a
difference. The calling methods still does not work in v2.0.0.18.

Fortunately, FireFox v3.0.4 continues to work fine with esker plugin 7.96.

Your .exe installation should be a simple Windows program with the the
npeskp32.dll file embedded as a resource and which copies it to the FireFox
"Plugins" folder.

You can locate the FireFox folder in the Windows registry under the key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxHTML\shell\open\command.

You can check Firefox.exe product version (using a bunch of  Windows API
documented by Microsoft).

And, if you purchase a certificate from a recognized certification authority
(Verisign or Thawte), you may sign your .exe file and get rid of the "author not
verified" warning.

The esker plug-in does not install when using Firefox 3.0.3.  The
installation process returns an error number 204 when it tries to
access the .jar file. This happens with the tictacto demo.  Has anyone
else seen this problem?

Unfortunately, we have received a negative response from a Moizilla reviewer to
our request:
He says that he needs access to our source code before leverageing from
"experimental" to "public".

I cannot blame Mozilla policy for that. I even tend to consider that letting
unknown developer upload to "experimental" is quite dangerous and I prefered the
certificate approach available in  previous versions of FireFox.

But on the other hand, I don't have to authority to decide giving away our
source code since it is part of a larger comercial application.

I would also like to have my users install this plugin and I agree

I have tested the Esker ActiveX Plug-in 9.93 with FireFox 2.0.0.17:

The TicTacTo demo works except for the javascript that call the ActiveX methods.

I have tried applying the same fix as for FireFox 3.0 but calling methods still
does not work.
I'll have to build FireFox 2.0.0.17 to see what has exactly changed...

I recon this is a critical issue since FireFox 2.0 forces an upgrade to
2.0.0.17.
In the mean time, the work around would be to upgrade to FireFox 3.0...

Not currently.

When I have time and if I feel a lot of pressure from enthousiat users, I might
try and implement support for signed CAB files (although it might not work on
old Windows platforms)...

In the mean time, as I mensionned before, I would suggest using either an HTTPS
URL or a local network URL for the OCX codebase.
At least this should work...

Thanks for the feedback.
I have uploaded a modified demo.zip on the Esker ActiveX Plug-in site for
version 7.96:
I have removed <embed> tag attributes "updateUrl" and "codebase" (which was
refereing to a special "temporary" URL).
It still cannot automatically install OCX but at least it will not loop on an
installation page and will work when the OCX is installed manually.

You should try with version 7.97 instead of 7.93.

The demo in not online any longer (because OCX automatic installation does not
work with FireFox3) but there is a Zip file containing the demo that you simply
extract to your PC and run locally.

We now know that the Esker ActiveX Plug-in works on Vista (thank you Cecilia),
but there migh be an access right issue if the OCX is registered for the IE user
and FireFox runs from an other user...

It looks like I was using an older version of the tictacto demo. I switched to
using the version from 7.93. It works a little different but the same result.
Now it will continually prompt to install the tictacto control. The .ocx is
installed and registered because it still works in IE on the Vista machine. Here

I can register the control too. The tictacto example works in IE so the ocx is
registered. It just does not show in Firefox 2 or 3 or Netscape 8 or 9. This is
on Windows Vista. All is OK on Windows XP.

The trace log seems correct, although unfortunately there is no details
on the ActiveX registration.

Could you try and register the ActiveX by hand by typing the following
command line:

regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Mozilla
Firefox\plugins\np7esk32\ocx\0004\TicTacTo.ocx"

Tell me if there is an error.
If not, retry opening FireFox on the page containing the ActiveX and see
if it works.
If not, check the registry for the ActiveX registration under:
HKEY_CLASS_ROOT\CLSID\{573EB966-8DF8-11D2-8AEB-00104B4228F5}

Not currently.

When I have time and if I feel a lot of pressure from enthousiat users, I might
try and implement support for signed CAB files (although it might not work on
old Windows platforms)...

In the mean time, as I mensionned before, I would suggest using either an HTTPS
URL or a local network URL for the OCX codebase.
At least this should work...

I have removed <embed> tag attributes "updateUrl" and "codebase" (which was
refereing to a special "temporary" URL).
It still cannot automatically install OCX but at least it will not loop on an
installation page and will work when the OCX is installed manually.

You should try with version 7.97 instead of 7.93.

The demo in not online any longer (because OCX automatic installation does not
work with FireFox3) but there is a Zip file containing the demo that you simply
extract to your PC and run locally.

We now know that the Esker ActiveX Plug-in works on Vista (thank you Cecilia),
but there migh be an access right issue if the OCX is registered for the IE user
and FireFox runs from an other user...

It looks like I was using an older version of the tictacto demo. I switched to
using the version from 7.93. It works a little different but the same result.
Now it will continually prompt to install the tictacto control. The .ocx is
installed and registered because it still works in IE on the Vista machine. Here

It is surprising that there is no line containing "CreateControlInstance" (there
was one in the first trace log you sent).

Please, delete the trace log file and then open your page using FireFox...
.. if the trace log file is different (contains "CreateControlInstance"), let me
see it...

I can register the control too. The tictacto example works in IE so the ocx is
registered. It just does not show in Firefox 2 or 3 or Netscape 8 or 9. This is
on Windows Vista. All is OK on Windows XP.

Hi Mike,

The trace log seems correct, although unfortunately there is no details
on the ActiveX registration.

Could you try and register the ActiveX by hand by typing the following
command line:

regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Mozilla
Firefox\plugins\np7esk32\ocx\0004\TicTacTo.ocx"

Tell me if there is an error.
If not, retry opening FireFox on the page containing the ActiveX and see
if it works.
If not, check the registry for the ActiveX registration under:
HKEY_CLASS_ROOT\CLSID\{573EB966-8DF8-11D2-8AEB-00104B4228F5}

I am not sure if this is still monitored, but I cannot get the
tictacto example to work using Firefox 2.0.0.12 on Windows Vista.
The tictacto exmaple works fine with Firefox 2.0.0.12 on Windows XP.
