Dear Peter,
As you know, we were very unsure about doing St Petersburg again this year,
for three reasons:
1. We really didn't learn anything new last time, as there were very few
papers
about real industrial applications.
2. The practical difficulties of visas etc. are exceedingly irritating.
3. It's disproportionately expensive.
We enjoyed our visit last time, it was a great adventure, and we hate to
disappoint
Sergei, but the plain fact is, it's bad value for time and money.
>the rest is payable
>in cash (in US$) at St. Petersburg.
So Janet & I would need to cart $1000 cash across one of the most
crime-ridden
towns in Europe! Anyway, I thought it was now illegal to use foreign
currency for
transactions in Russia.
>Please note that we have cleared the use of Schloss Dagstuhl (Germany)
>as an possible alternative venue.
Now you're talking.
Best wishes,
Janet & Nick
