Congratulations and welcome, John!

That's a very personal thing! Some people may like a preset the way it
is, some like to change something. You should consider them as
starting point to learn what the parameters do and tweak, as you have
already found out.

First you need to understand what Hotkeys are.
a maximum of 8 parameters can be "extrapolated" from the guts of the
preset and brought up on the display for quick user tweaks. The
Hotkeys show up in 2 pages of four each, at preset loading.
The fact is that the preset has many more parameters than these 8
Hotkeys. You need to get inside the preset and check them all to
really learn your unit well. Time is on your side. There are no
relationships between hotkeys per se....interactions exist between
parameters (that can be made hotkeys if you like) that affect the same
effect. For instance in a chorus fx the rate will speed up/slow down
the mosulation rate, while the depth will affect how much detuning you
get. It's interesting and useful to hear how they interact...making
your own chorus!

I believe you need to acquire the basic knowledge of the effects and
their parameters. A good reading of Craig Anderton book "Multi_FX for
Musicians" will boost your tweaking a lot. It's a very good book.

I don't think that is the case, John. Be more specific....which preset
gave you this impression? There might be different conditions:
-a gate in the preset needs lowering the threshold
-your system is not properly connected
-the levels are not properly set

I'm syncing my H8000 to a Lucid external clock and I just noticed the

that OK ? Or might I be having clock issues ?

When loading a program, the H8000 automatically goes into Parameter
mode. When I'm cycling through a bunch of programs, I don't want to go
into Parameter mode until I've found a suitable program. In other words,
I'd much prefer to stay in the program screen after having loaded a
program: is this possible via a setting somewhere ?

Orville used to work that way...and we got submerged by requests to load and
go to parameter.
So...here we are.
You can't change this.

Surprising, especially as I can't think of any other piece of software
that immediately goes into Edit mode as soon as you've loaded a program.
At the very least it should have been a user-selectable option (IMHO).

Richard

old days digital technology has all parameters available on the ront panel.
When algorithms started out w/VLS chips, many felt that sub_menus were a
sort of obstacle to on_the_fly adjustments. Particularly performers enjot
parameters visibility, hot keys, parameters the user can put there, on the
display.
You can use MIDI to load presets and simply don't care about the display.
Probably the solution to make everybody happy could be a mode setting....

Hello,

I have a problem with my global setup.. I use a looper (voodoo lab gcx)
and the Eclipse is on channel 6 of the looper. I'd like to control the
volume of the Eclipse with my pedalboard (an All Access) even though
when channel 6 is not activated in the loop. In fact I don't need the
Eclipse on every song I play with my band, but I'd like to keep control
on the out gain volume all the time. When the Eclipse is outside the
looper I can control it... What could I do to solve this problem ?

Thanks a lot !

Italo -

I just installed the new Vsig 2.490 on a new Windows XP PC.

Right after I installed Vsig and I looked under
Preferences > Comms, I noticed Stop Bits was 1
by default. I changed Stop Bits to 2 in Vsig
to agree with the Vsig Help and the settings
on my H8000FW running OS 5.2.

Everything seems to work fine with my H8000FW.
I just wanted to let you know about that default
setting Vsig has on the PC. I'm guessing you
want it to default to 2.

Hello Folks on Eventide Helps

we all need to pay attention to our postings size!
Very often people add their own personal comment/answer/whatever to an existing
thread, without clearing the post.
The result is a mail with many replies to the same subject, containing an
endless growing mass of consequent replies...

Please, *ERASE* all the previous replies/comments in the thread, leaving the one
you are referring to ONLY!

This is *extremely* important for many reasons, including the life of Eventide
Helps.
By taking this simple care, we can avoid the following:

-Help people who are still using modems
-Help reading of messages by keeping a nicer format
-Help Eventide Helps to survive!
We have a fixed limited amount of space (MB) here. Erasing what is not necessary
is actually saving storage/bandwith, a vital resource for the forum.

PLEASE everybody, clean all is not needed/necessary in your replies to threads.
We will very thankful to all the careful ones.

Thank you all.

Hi everybody

In order to improve support communication and requests you need to follow these
guidelines.
Please understand that the complexity of these amazing products and the huge
variety of applications and gear/setups used in the field call for a more
technical way to handle any help request or issue from the user side. We can't
just base our support on statements like "it doesn't work" or on continuosly
repeating the same questions about details. Technology can't be supported by
guessing...or Voodoo!

So, we need this information *any time* you need and request help:

-EVENTIDE TECHNOTES
we have an continuously updated web page with Technotes for you. This is the
first place to check when a problem arises or you need some more
information/tutorials about your unit. Bookmark and frequently check this page:
http://www.eventide.com/technote/index.html

-OS version running on the unit : all Eventide units
Your EVENTIDE should *always* run the latest official public available Operative
System, not any BETA version.
Your manual tells you to register your unit, new or used, Eventide website tells
you the same, Eventide Helps repeats it countless times:
REGISTER YOUR EVENTIDE filling this e-form:
http://www.eventide.com/forms/EOReg.html
This is necessary for upgrades or you won't know and get them! It's free!
Your unit MUST be on the latest OS to get support from us. First update, then
check it.
A new set of downloadable manuals are always available when a new OS is out.
Please get them as there will be new info reflecting the changes/enhancements in
the new system.

-clock sync details and used sample rates, found under SETUP > Clock : all
Eventide units
-a diagram of audio I/O connections and gear connected to/from the EVENTIDE if
it's being used in Multi-Channel setups (ORVILLE and H8000 all models), with
cables/connectors/wiring details. Please understand that EVENTIDE does not
support your DAW or MIDI pedalboars/controller. You have to refer to their
manuals and manufacturers' support.

-a diagram of Word Clock connections (if the problem is about W.C.) and
type/brand of used W.C. cables : all EVENTIDE units.

-internal DSPs routing name if an internally stored Factory Routing is being
used (ORVILLE and H8000 all models)

-internal DSPs routing diagram if an user created routing is being used (ORVILLE
and H8000 all models)

-ECLIPSE : provide selected Routing choice set under PARAMETER > (Routing)

-if you suspect a MIDI problem, you will need to report all your system setting
for MIDI parameters and MIDI connections flow to/from the Eventide.

-names & numbers of presets showing a/the problem. Compulsory on all EVENTIDE
units. The user MUST name at least one preset that was loaded when the problem
occurred - even if he/she thinks it happens on all of them. If you think it
happens on all of them, you MUST also confirm that it happens on preset "Thru."
This is a reference preset available on all Eventide units. Always use it for
testing *before* reporting anything to us.

-report exact sequence of acts preceeding a problem. Try to replicate the
problem before reporting it to us. If we do not know *how* you got to that issue
we can't replicate it...and we can't help you.

-user MUST have tried a "CLEAR SETUP" (or, in the case of initial lockup, hold
down PROGRAM at startup to unload the last loaded preset) before reporting a
problem. User Manuals for all units describe the procedure to execute a CLEAR
SETUP.

-READ THE MANUALS. We have worked hard on them and you have paid money for them.
Most times solution is already there.

-please carefully read our support correspondence and reply to our questions
precisely; we know our products and a possible cause for a problem. Our
questions follow a precise pattern that focuses on a straight path to find the
cause/solution.

Hi Italo,

We're setting up a new daw in the studio, it runs leopard 10.5.1
It seems the h8000fw driver is partly incompatible: The H8000 Settings
dialogue works (calling the H8000fw MyProduct 04000096). It's possible
to change the clock source for instance, it'll reflect in the units
setup menu. 'about this mac' will also show the H8000fw. The unit is
also visible in the 'sound' menu of the 'system preferences'
Firewire1 (in the units setup/clock menu) doesn't go to a locked state
- only sometimes for about 0.5 seconds, but the H8000 Settings on the
computer will show it's locked

We tried in both on a new Mac Pro and a new MacBook with the same
result. Will there be a compatible driver or workaround anytime soon?

cheers,

Simon

Hi Simon

the FW driver will very likely need an upgrade. So at this time, as
adviced, people should not use Leopard yet.
There is no info on when the driver will be available.

Thanks Matt!

Some refinement work is still in progress.

Click on Sign In, then on Create a New Account and let me know if you
are able to create your profile and get a password.
In the next few days things should be ok.

best

Italo,

Does the story continue with you at the helm as our trusty guide?

Looks very nice, Italo. I just created my account, and I am now
logged in.

One question--Is there a "home" link somewhere, or a way to get back
to the main forum page? Right now I am on the Time Factor Beta update
page. I see links for 'register product', 'my products', and a few
others--but nothing that will take me back to the main forum page.

Thanks!

Jeff

Hi all

posting and new subscriptions are now and finally disabled.

Anybody can enter EvHelps and read, but can't post.
No new members are accepted, but there is no need for this any longer.

A complete archive of EvHelps postings is available on the new
Eventide forum.

Any suggestion should NOT be sent to EvHelps. Please subscribe to the
new forum AND post THERE.
