Apologies to those of you who get this more than once - I know some of you subscribe to all of these mailing lists.

We have a great Meetup approaching in Boston - on December 14th Joshua Marantz and Matthew Steele from Google are going to present on mod_pagespeed and the Page Speed Chrome extension respectively. For all of the details see the event description here:

I hope those of you who are in the Boston area on the 14th can make it!

I upload files to be smushed. They get smushed, then I select to download the
smushed images. I save the file to my hard disk but it only downloads 362KB
instead of 3MB of data every time I try. Tried different browsers and updated
every driver and app on my pc to the latest version.

Thanks

Would you mind sharing these images (the original files)? You can send me off this thread so I can reproduce and investigate the problem.

Thanks,

Marcel

Hi, I have the smush.it plugin activated on my wordpress blog at
www.when-is.com.au, but it doesnt seem to be working right.

When in the media library view, the "smush it now!" button returns a "cannor
find..." error.

since there is no admin/control feature, I don't know how to resolve this. Any
ideas?

Cheers,
Rich

Was it working before? Have you tried contacting the plugin author? According to the plugin page (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-smushit/) it seems to be pretty active, the last update was 4 days ago.

Best,

Marcel

Hello all,

For those of you that are based in London and want to meet like minded people,
the London Web Performance Meetup has scheduled its first meetup for Wed 19th
January!

http://www.meetup.com/London-Web-Performance-Group/calendar/15729259/

Seatwave.com will be presenting a case study on their web performance
improvement project which should be extremely interesting.

Hopefully some of you will want to attend (and please pass this on to relevant
colleagues, customers, contacts etc who might want to learn more about web
performance optimisation).

See you there!

Cheers,
Steve

No, never got it working in the first place, I think.
The path listed in the error message is the valid path....
I have posted on their wordpress forum, but no response yet.

Hi Richard,

There might be a problem on your WP installation. I have just installed smushit WP plugin (1.3.1) in my own WP blog and works smoothly. Please check your directory permissions.

Hello,

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that we are having a web performance meetup in Boston on January 18th that will be focusing on optimizing server side performance.  So far our meetups have dealt mainly with the front-end, so if you were waiting for a technical, architecture oriented talk then now is the time to join!  Free pizza will be be provided, so you won't have to worry about finding dinner.  See the link below for all of the details.

Thanks, and happy new year to all!

Is there anyone on this group that could host one in the UK?

I am not sure where to submit suggested enhancements to YSlow. Here is a really
minor one:

In Controller.js function runTool,

after

doc = YSLOW.util.getNewDoc();

add:

if (tool_id == 'printableview')
   doc.title = "YSlow Analysis Report"

Where do I submit a Yslow bug report.

Basically I'm using FF 4.0b9pre on Kubuntu. The "run" button doesn't work for
Yslow in the firebug pane - it runs fine, if you change the profile then the
"run now" button works fine. Weird little bug.

Just FYI.

all the files you've uploaded in that session causing major processing on your

Hi all,

Is there any way presently, or is any way planned, to enable the recognition of
CloudFlare (http://www.cloudflare.com) by YSlow as a CDN?

http://www.webpagetest.org presently recognizes CF as a CDN, but of course YSlow
does not, which presumably costs a few score points.

Any insights/solutions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Marc

Hi Marc,

You can use the procedure described here
http://developer.yahoo.com/yslow/faq.html#faq_cdn to configure extra CDN URLs.

Hi Rohan,

Unfortunately, as CloudFlare does not function as a typical CDN, that URL based
approach will not apparently work.

It is not clear to me what is specifically required, as I know that for example,
there was some specific interaction between CloudFlare and the webpagetest.org
folks to get the latter to recognize CloudFlare as a CDN for their testing.

According to Damon over at CloudFlare, they had attempted to initiate some
contact with the YSlow group about a month ago with no reply.

Is there some way that I can help to facilitate the communications between you
and them to enable some progress on this? CloudFlare is an up and coming
provider of CDN and related services, especially given that their basic service
is free. It seems a pity that YSlow, as a dominant benchmark provider, does not
yet recognize them.

Let me know what I can do to assist.

Thanks,

Marc

Is there some way that I can help to facilitate the communications between you and them to enable some progress on this? CloudFlare is an up and coming provider of CDN and related services, especially given that their basic service is free. It seems a pity that YSlow, as a dominant benchmark provider, does not yet recognize them.

Let me know what I can do to assist.

Thanks,

Marc

FWIW, no secret meetings with WebPagetest and CloudFlare - I do DNS lookups to colect CName mappings and reverse-lookups on the IP addresses to get all of the possible server names for a given host and then match all of them against the CDN list.  For CloudFlare in particular I'm pretty sure you need to do the reverse-lookup on the IP address.

Thanks,

-Pat

Hi Rohan,

Unfortunately, as CloudFlare does not function as a typical CDN, that URL based approach will not apparently work.

It is not clear to me what is specifically required, as I know that for example, there was some specific interaction between CloudFlare and the webpagetest.org folks to get the latter to recognize CloudFlare as a CDN for their testing.

According to Damon over at CloudFlare, they had attempted to initiate some contact with the YSlow group about a month ago with no reply.

Marcel and Pat,

Just an FYI that I saw a note from Damon over at CF indicating that some
significant progress was made on this today, which is great news.

Thanks for facilitating this moving forward! If there is anything else that I
can assist with, such as the testing of a new version, let me know.

Regards,

Marc
