Nice plastic case for Mini boards?   Message List

Re: Nice plastic case for Mini boards?

If you find a source, please post it. Also, half and fourth
miniboard size.

I usually try to cram everything on half miniboards (1.9x2.5) and
then put a totally different circuit on the other half. Sometimes,
if I need more boards, I put a second copy of the board over there.
The last time, I can't believe all the stuff I crammed in there
thanks to SMT. The other half was divided in half as well
(0.95x2.5).

The 1/4th board was a nice 4.5 digit LED display module for remote
displays. It has 4 0.56" 7-segment displays and a bunch of regular
LEDs. It also has a SMT microprocessor on the back that drives the
whole mess under serial control. Although I have assembled it, I
haven't had a chance to write the software for it yet. Once I get it
working, I plan to post the files here because it is definitely a
utility board that everyone can use or modify to their liking.

I would prefer plastic cases, but in the interim, I have been making
my own half miniboard cases out of 3" square aluminum tubing. I cut
it about 1.5" long and then JB Weld the back side on. The front and
back are 3"x3"x1/8" flat aluminum plate. The top part of the case is
attached with little 4-40 bolts and nuts. Holes are drilled in the
flat part and nuts are JB Welded to the corners of the square
tubing. The PCB is bolted with the same screws to nuts that have
been JB welded to the bottom of the case. I might add that the
aluminum case makes a nice place to screw heat sinks to.

The material is not very expensive, but it takes a LOT of time to
make one. That is why I would love it if somebody made a case that
size.

Dennis.
