Just an update. I decided to give tex4ht a try. The end result was pretty nice. The equations became graphics rather than equations and that may be a draw

Peter, It is very easy to convert from a PDF file to a PS file. Open the PDF file using Adobe Acrobat and use either the Save As command or the Export command

This trend toward WORD is a bit disturbing, but it seems to be what some publishers are doing. I am not sure why, but must be related to the software they use.
