Steve,
The file you created is the problem. I do not know how to set the options
in PDF factory (see my comment later), but it is not embedding the font
labelled as EXPSymbolX (The long name without spaces of EXPSymX.tff). It
looks like the other EXP fonts made it to the file, but with different
names. Since the names are not precisely that same as on EXP, I am not
sure why you can see them. It may be related to your system in some
manner. I can not see those fonts in my AA5 on Win98. I tried on my XP
machine with AA6 and it looks fine, but again the fonts are not embedded
(EXPSymbolX, Reporter, and Reporter (Bold)). The font embedding is your
problem. I am not sure why my Win98 does not show the fonts.
The first thing you should do in such cases is check the document
properties of the PDF and select fonts. That should tell you if the fonts
are embedded (not in your case). Go to the Advanced>Font tab of the PDF
Factory tab and you should find that your fonts are not getting embedded.
Fix the selection and retry. I just have an old demo version of PDF
Factory and that is the best I can tell you. I use Acrobat for my PDFs
(at home this is AA5 due to Win98).
Just to let you know, all I saw were little dots where the font should
have been on Win98. There were not sums, integrals, and brackets that are
part of the file. The reason you can see them on your system is likely
because they are part of your system. I have no idea why my Win98 system
did not show them. Acrobat will display the correct font if it can find
them. Your students can't find the fonts and they are not embedded.

Original message:
I convert my exp files to pdf using pfd factory. Everything was fine
with Adode Reader 6.0. Now some of my students, who I believe have
7.0, are having difficulty reading the files. The problem is with the
math symbols like summation signs. I don't have a problem with 5.0 or
6.0. The students say that they get an error message about a font not
being available.
Is anyone aware of this problem? There was a similar problem with 5.0
which was corrected with a patch or update.
