Thanks again, but the replacement idea of keyboard macros did not
work. I went to the subdirectory, changed the original keyboard macros
name to "Original Keyboardmacros" and copied the keyboard macros
from EXP 5. The EXP 6.0 did not care for it, but strangely, read the
"Original Keyboardmacros" keyboard. It probably won't read the
EXP 5.0 keyboard macros, which would not surprise me.

I am curious how can I use the keyboard macros in EXP 6.0
previously created in EXP 5. In the past, the keyboard macros

locate the keyboard macros from within EXP 6.0.
So, my question is where is the keyboard macros located?

You will only be able to install 3 copies. The number of installed copies is
keyed on to the
memory stick. I tried it under testing I think and that was indeed the case. To
install it on
a different computer, you have to uninstall from one of the three. Actually, 3
is the new
trend that Simon and a few others have started using. Most licenses say 2 copies
or they just
limit you to a single user with the number not noted (a bit dangerous for the
vendor).
Basically you will have to decide which of the machines you will use, max 3. If
you want all

The migration of the keyboard macros is explained in the help file. Depending on
your version
of Acrobat or Reader, you may have to go to the EXP 6.0>System folder and open
the PDF that is
now the form of the help. On this machine, I have to go to the folder since EXP
6 does not
recognize AA5. It does recognize AA7. Not sure what the problem is.
In the directions it gives info on where the keyboard macros can be found for
various versions
of the OS and indicates to copy the macro file to "My EXP Files\System". I would
check the help file for
information on the location.
It appears you got it to work. Most of the answers you will need are in the
manual (help file of about 3MB PDF). There are several nice
new features, many related to interacting through the clipboard or saving with
other programs. Enjoy. Bill

OK guys - Acrobat 9, Vista, EXP v.5.1 SP4 - won't print in Acrobat. What am I
doing wrong?

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
I was never quite satisfied with the print redirection
into PDF, especially if the graphics placed into EXP contain
fonts with math symbols and Greek letters. I rather use an
Apple Color LaserWrite printer driver set to print to a
PostScript file, then I use the Acrobat Distiller to convert
the PS into PDF, always with perfect results.
Otherwise, you might want to try the PDF-reDirect program,
<http://www.exp-systems.com/>, it's free and creates relatively
good PDFs most of the time, but still has occasional problems
with handling certain fonts (I guess the problem is with the
non-standard font files).
Hope this helps,

I cannot bring up help topics because even though I downloaded and installed
Winhlp32.exe to Vista, so I can't check help.
I have checked the document for LaTex Conversion. It is ready to convert, but I
am not sure what to do. I go to option->document options and click LaTex
Connversion and the OK. However nothing seems to happen.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
The document option just checks the file for LaTeX compatibility (shift-F11). To
create the LaTeX file, you just use Save As and
select the LaTeX file type. Be sure to change the extension in EXP 5.1.
There are a lot of LaTeX options in the document options for the conversion to
improve the results of the LaTeX file.
Unfortunately they are not very easy to understand and require a reasonable
understanding of LaTeX - I am marginal on LaTeX
and maybe you are better.
There are 2 style sheets (.sty) that should be included with the LaTeX file that
are found in the LaTeX folder of EXP. You may
need to play around a bit with the graphics options for the LaTeX conversion. It
may be better to actually do the graphics
separately for your version of LaTeX and not try to extract them.
Good luck. I was told by one person that worked in LaTeX, that the EXP
conversion was easier to deal with than either Scientific
WORD or MicroSoft WORD. I still find EXP one of the easiest technical word
processors to use, though not as flexible as LaTeX.
That flexibility is not something I have found as a major concern, except
possibly having word wrap around a graphic or such.
Most of us have workarounds for those issues.

Bill is correct (as he usually is) that the conversion is not difficult, as long
as the setup is OK. But I'm thinking you might temporarily install EXP 5.1 on an
XP machine just so you can read the help files about the process. They tell you
what and where the necessary style sheets and are and to where to copy them.

OK. I saved the file as a tex file and opened the tex file
withTeXShop. However I run into errors trying to typeset. Perhaps I
am not including the .sty files. How do I check? Thanks,

My EXP 6.0 appears to be corrupted. I can't find the "key" to allow me to
reinstall. Diskettes are easier to keep track of than a memory stick. Is there
a patch that can fix this problem?
A comment on VISTA. As I recall, Simon did a few patches and that might
have improved the performance on VISTA. I do not remember if I had a
help problem on VISTA (don't check help that much and do most of my
work on XP). The latest update for EXP 5.1 is SP4 and installing that
might be worth the time if you have not done so.
I do have one problem on VISTA. The screen refresh sometimes messes up.
A page up and down resolves the issue -- a pain when you are typing. Of
course that may be a display driver issue for my 24" wide-screen
display.
The style sheet issue is one for your TeX system. I would assume thoat
you need to locate the STY files in the same folder as the TEX file or
in a base folder of your TEX system. The former should be adequate. It
has been so long since I used my MikTeX, I forgot the process. However,
in the samples I did a while back, the exptex.sty and expthmi.sty are
both located in the folder with the tex file. The original sty files
are located in the LaTeX sub-folder of your EXP installation.
I can check my VISTA for the help file in a bit.

Thanks Bill. I installed SP4 this morning, but EXP help still
malfunctions. BTW I copied and pasted exptex.sty into the file EXP
converted to teX. However when I run TeXShop using LaTeX I get error
messages.
In case anyone is a quick read of TeX files, I am attaching the file
(with the .sty pasted in) below. If anyone has any insights I would
be grateful for any pointers. Thank you,

Attachments don't function on the listserv.
There are two style files. The second is expthmi.sty.
Both sty files should be in the directory that contains the file article.cls

OK, I got to work and tried it on VISTA and indeed the help file failed. I may
look at it a bit more. Simon did make some comments about VISTA at
some point as I recall, and that may have had some information. His focus
now is on EXP6.
The attachments did not come through. That is typical of most listservs.
You will likely have to post your example some place. In that case you
might want to post both the EXP file and the TEX file.
The help files work fine on the EXP 6 with VISTA. Simon moved to a PDF
format for EXP 6 help.

There is information on getting EXP 5.1 Help to work on Vista on the EXP web
site:
http://www.expswp.com/support/Vista/HelpSystem.htm
You need to do more than just download and install WinHelp.

Does anyone know a way to open two copies of EXP, one on each of two
monitors? My system will not allow it, simply reverting to the open copy.
Equivalently, I could tile two windows vertically. When I try this, I
cannot drag the second window over to the other monitor.
Thanks,
Don Waldman

Does anyone know if EXP 6.0 is compatible to a 64 bits processor.
It turns out that EXP 5.0 is not.

All,
Eugene is correct that EXP 5.0 will not work with 64-bit editions of
Windows. EXP 6.0 does work with 64-bit Windows. However, units of EXP 6.0
shipped prior to July 13, 2009 have a problem installing on 64-bit Windows.
If you purchased EXP 6.0 prior to that date and you need to install EXP on a
64-bit Windows system, please contact Symbol Dynamics customer service and
we can e-mail you a tiny program that fixes the problem. All units of EXP
6.0 shipped after July 12, 2009 install smoothly on 64-bit Windows.
By the way, I have tested EXP 6.0 with both the 32-bit and the 64-bit
editions of Windows 7 Release Candidate and all is well. Once Microsoft
releases the final version of Windows 7 in October, I will post a message to
this group announcing the compatibility.
Regards,
Simon Smith

Hi EXPerts. Is it possible to insert a hypertext link in an EXP 5.1
document? If so, how? For example, I'd like to insert Riemann
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riemann_zeta_function> zeta function.
Thanks, Frank

I think it can be done, but not directly. It also depends on your intended
use. If it is for printing to a PDF, you can do it by creating an EPS file that
is inserted. The EPS file would have to implement PDF Marks, the way one
can also include slide transitions in a file used to create PDF slides.
Basically PDF Marks are what are used by PDF Maker in OFFICE files to
add information in a preprocessing sense to the PS file that is used to
create the PDF.
Actually, for a PDF it is probably faster to simply add the link in the PDF
directly. If you have some other purpose for a hyperlink, then what is your
intended use. For hyperlinks directly from EXP, the answer is no.

Riccardo -
You need to dual boot to Windows. 5.0.2 works well in XP.

Riccardo,
On the apple website look at http://www.apple.com/findouthow/mac/#windowsmac
I use Parallels and it works beautifully. I would recommend against using
Bootcamp to partition your drive. Letting Parallels handle the whole thing is
more efficient, faster, smoother operation in my experience. I have no
experience with VMware Fusion.
