You have either Logic Pro or Logic Express - they were 2 different apps.

Apple only sells Logic Studio now which includes Logic Pro 8 plus
everything else. If you have Logic 7, you can can buy an upgrade
which is obviously much cheaper for you. You'll get EXS24 plus a huge
library of instruments and much more. If you can afford it, you
should definitely upgrade to Logic Studio ( including Logic Pro 8).
It is huge value for money.
http://www.apple.com/logicstudio/

EXS24 is not available on its own. Long long long ago (around v3 or
v4 or v5) it was a separate purchase - not any more.

Subject: high-end EXS drum kits?

Can anyone recommend some good EXS drum kits, either for $ or otherwise?
Currently I've been using one of the acoustic kits that came with logic,
along with a kit I've been sampling from my own drumset, and the Sonic
Implants Stereo Drums sound font I purchased maybe 10 years ago.

This is for playing from an electronic set (converted acoustic set with
mesh heads and triggers)

Not super-happy with anything so far although the logic kits Sonic
Implants kit are very playable (from the standpoint of does it feel like
I'm playing a real drumset).

What I want: super-tasty cymbals, crisp hats and snare, natural sounding
toms, and a nice deep kick.

Having a hard time finding anything in EXS format for sale or otherwise.

Wonder if I buy a giga kit, will it convert well?

Agreed. ChocolateAudio's "Old Funk Kit" sounds very good. I have only
used the Kontakt version though.

So I purchased and downloaded the Bonzo kit - they only had that and
the "Old Funk" kit. Since I was looking for something modern, tasty (and
Paiste), I didn't get the Old Funk kit.

I'm not too happy with the Bonzo kit in terms of playability. The sounds
are good, but in order to really use this with my electronic kit, I
would have to spend days and days reprogramming the dynamics. It doesn't
come close to any of the default Logic Kits in playability or the other
kits - Sonic Implants, the default SampleBase, and the default Yellow
Tools Independance Free kits.

It does have one thing that *nobody* else seems to have: Paiste Cymbals
& Hats - They are just the best sounding cymbals on earth and therefore,
I might have to get down and redo the dynamics on the Bonzo kit after all.

Sascha - your memory is worse than your sense of humour!!! :-)

To access any virtual instruments in Logic:
Select an AudioInst track/object
Click-hold on the slot just below [I/O]
Everything you seek is there....

You could always look in the Logic 8 manual - on page 210 etc

All the EXS files should be on your install CD....

I've created a page of free exs samples. It's mostly multi-samples of analogue
modulars, but I plan to include other synths too.

The quality varies, but there are some really nice samples available. I have
ton's more taking up space on my hard drive, so I'll add more if people like
them. Here's the link:

Thanks!

Hello All,

Just in time for those Holiday projects - I'd like to announce a new
Handbell sample library for the Apple EXS24 from Bolder Sounds. The
Handbell library features a 3 octave set of chromatic Handbells
recorded in 9 articulations totaling 1.2 gigabytes. The samples are
24 bit stereo and most articulations are presented with 2 round-
robins per bell. The EXS24 version features 20 EXS instruments along
with 11 Channel Strip settings (created in Logic 8). A 4th 'fake
octave' has been added to extend the bass range for flexibility. I
believe it is fair to say this library is somewhat unique in the
current sample library world.

The Handbell library is available at a special introductory price of
$69.00 until January 1, 2010. Please visit the Bolder site for
detailed information and audio demos.

Handbell sampled articulations list -

Handbell Clapper - samples are created with the traditional technique
of holding it against the shoulder, bell-upwards, and then swinging
the bell through an elliptical shape to cause the clapper to strike
the casting of the bell.
Suspended Handbell with a soft rubber mallet - samples were recorded
with the bells suspended from the ceiling of the room while being
struck with a soft rubber mallet.
Suspended Handbell with a hard rubber mallet - samples were recorded
with the bells suspended from the ceiling of the room while being
struck with a hard rubber mallet.
Suspended Handbell with a plastic chopstick - samples were recorded
with the bells suspended from the ceiling of the room while being
struck with a plastic chopstick. This creates a great deal of high
frequency content.
Singing Handbells - The Singing Handbells sound is created by running
a wood dowel along the rim of the handbell, similar to the way you
can run a wet finger along the edge of a crystal glass and make it sing.
Plucked Handbells - is accomplished by using the thumb and forefinger
to force the clapper head into the casting while the bell is on the
table, producing a staccato note.
Malleted Handbells on a padded table - samples are created by
striking the bell with a rubber mallet while the bell is resting on
the foam of a padded table. This produces a tone brighter and more
percussive than the plucked samples.
Handbell Shakes - is accomplished by quickly ringing the bell back
and forth so that the clapper strikes both the front and back of the
bell casting in rapid succession. This creates a continuous tone, as
opposed to normal ringing in which the tone decays rapidly after
being rung.
Handbell table hit endings - samples are typically used for the end
of a piece of music or at a cadence. Before this sound is heard the
bell is already ringing, so you hear just a small portion of the
pitch of the bell followed by the percussive hit on the foam table.

* I have also enabled some older FREE sound sets that have not been
available recently. The FREE sound libraries are offered on a
rotating basis *

Thank you for your time!
