I'm thinking of purchasing the EXS24 to use primarily as a drum
sample player. Is it good for this purpose or is it more suited to
playing sampled keymapped instruments? Can the individual hits of a
drum kit be fed to separate effects ie different reverb for snare and
different EQ for snare/kick etc, or would this require a separate
EXS24 instrument for each part of the kit?
Has anyone compared it to the Koblo gamma 9000 for drums or the Unity
sampler? How does it rate? I would appreciate some feedback from
someone who has used it for this purpose.

Hi,
the thread on organization of EXS instruments has recently been discussed
in the German EXS forum and there has been a statement that Emagic and
Clemens are aware of the problem - and are going to solve it in some
future update. No date yet, but I am sure it´s gonna come

Thomas
P.S. Currently "sampler instrumens" is the *only* directory - one thing
you can do however is writing a batch file that exchanges the samples in
"sampler instruments" through those of any other directory, before you
load Logic - not the best solution, but it works.
Hi there,
anyone found a way to make EXS24 look into another
folder as only "sampler instruments" on startup ?
I have about 60 AKAI CD-ROMS which I now want to use with EXS24.
But after import the instruments are all mixed together in this
folder and one cannot create subfolders for a better order.

Yes - We are using 4.5. The Cds we tried were all Akai 3000 and Akai
1000 etc cds.
Apparently this bug is not fixed.

Do you use a mixed mode CD (there is a Audio and an Akai section on the
CD) with 4.3.0? Then you should download 4.5.0 where this bug is fixed.

We tried to use the convert Akai format function and it failed every
time crashing our G4. We set and used the MacOS preference for the
Mac internal Cd drive.
Convert Akai format works just fine using Unity DS so I dont believe
it is a hardware problem.
Anyone have a solution or workaround?
No. You may install it on your machine as often you want to. After a while,
lets say a week or so you will be asked for the original CD. Since this CD
has hidden? bad files on it you are not able to make copies. But this is not
intended by Emagic anyhow:-)

bummer. On a related note, anybody here pipe vocals through the ES1
sidechain yet? I've done similar abusive things with my K2500.
I tried putting voice through it (just a scratch vocal snippet), and
it was working when the ES1's midi was pre-recorded. So I started
playing the midi realtime on the kbd as the voice went through the
ES1, cool for a couple secs, then BLAMMO.
Crash.
It's good to know where the boundries are. :-D

Hey Thomas!
hmm, yeah, I guess that'd work. If that's the way it has to be, that
kind of sucks though.
I thought maybe there'd be a setting in in the ES1 to assign a
channel to it...
Arps don't have a channel assignment, they just spew out notes, and
it looks like if you cable one to an ES1-type virtual instrument, the
notes don't get to the synth, although the notes DO get to the synth
if you just, for example, make an ES1 track in arrange like you would
any other synth.
downright freaky.
I don't really mind when things like this don't work, it's just that
sometimes it seems so "within the parameters of what the app's
already doing" that I just think I'm not understanding something, ya
know?
anyway, logic rocks.

Hi nibbz,
could it be that you must record the arpeggiator output first into a
"normal" midi sequence and then assign the complete arpeggiated sequence
to the ES-1?? Just wondering...
Thomas
Still waiting on my exs from sweetwater, s'posed to show up this week.
How to use an environment Arpeggiator with EXS24? I've been trying
to get one to work with ES-1 and have had no luck.
It seems so simple; Arp cabled to input of an ES1 audio object, but
I'll be damned if I can get it to output anything.
Anyone know what I'm (obviously) missing?
TIA!

Bummer!
My EXS24 just arrived and I can't install it.
My hard drive is partitioned (Mac G3) so the System drive is not very
big and only has 49Mb free space. The EXS installer tells me that
there isn't enough space and tells me to select another drive.
Problem is...there's no way in the installer to actually select another drive.
Before I start re-arranging my whole system, is there a workaround?
Can I copy the installer to a drive with more space?
Help!!!
Colin
PS - Why does the CD say EXS24 volume 2 ? Where's 1?
I was only joking.... :-)

Hi All,
I'm anxiously waiting to see the ESX around my neck of the woods (Vancouver,
Canada), but none of the dealers appear to know when they expect to have
stock. I know from their (eMagic's) website that it is now shipping world
wide, so are there any bleeding edge users here from North
America???....Canada?????

I am interested in using VST instruments as well as the Emagic ES1
and EXS24 in a live situation. I am primarily looking to trigger
them live, and not via sequences, but I don't see any way of
triggering more than one simultaneously. Is anyone out there using

Thanks, Joe Lindsey
Hi Chris,
no dongle required. During installation you need the CD to authorize.
But you will need the CD later for re-authorisation during start-up.
The program will ask for the CD every once a while...
Same with the ES-1.
Good luck!

I hope not another dongle.
