The background image patch extension that has been customized for
specific ROMs allow the reallocation of the entire pic to another,
free area of the ROM. The generic extension, which only shows if
there isn't a ROM specific one, will not allow the import of an image
larger than the one it is replacing. From your description, the image
is being reallocated.
