You do realize the 703 is a 3-disc changer, not a single disc unit,
right? Your solution won't work. In fact, it won't even come close
to working. Nice try, though :)
To go further with this (to try and help the original poster's
problem) the solution I've found is two-fold. You need good media
and a good burner. I just retired a LiteOn 811S in favor of an NEC
2500A. I had some success with the 811's burns on the 703, however I
have had no problems at all with the burns from my NEC drive.
Other than that, your only other solution is to retire the ol' 703,
lets face it, there's been 0 progress on this player for *years*,
whereas the 600A (and others, for example) have thrived with the OFFA
project. It's really unfortunate, as far as I know there are no
fully hackable multi-disc DVD players out there.
