I hope everybody had a good Holiday. I was in Chicago over the
weekend and uploaded a few pics into the !Newest Pics album. There
are pictures of Millennium Park and a few famous Chicago buildings.
Today we learned that President Ford has died. He will be buried at
his Presidential Museum in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. I
have created another album called !Ford Museum and included a couple
of pics I took there in the summer of 2003.

Made a trip to the U.P. this weekend.. lots of rain and chilly
weather. Went to Taquamenon Falls on Saturday. Pics are in the !New
Pictures folder. The sun came out for a moment.. and the bugs moved
in - lol
The Super Bowl is in Detroit this weekend. I have put a few pics I
took of the Renaissance Center in a 'XL' folder in the pictures area.
The Ren Cen has a 21 story banner for the Super Bowl on the main
tower, as well as banners on the inside. These pictures were taken on 1/16/2006
when I was in Detroit for the Auto Show.
Since yesterday was the 30th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund
Fitzgerald I thought I would post some of my pictures related to this
ship. (Under Photos, in the !EF folder)
For those that are not familiar with the ship...
The Edmund Fitzgerald was launched on June 8,1958
It was an ore carrier and was 729 feet long. Working under the
Olgabay Norton colors.
She sank on Nov 10, 1975, in Lake Superior 17 miles from Whitefish Point.

I was in Upper Michigan last week on a camping trip and posted some
pics from it. Most of the pics are of water, as I do love being near
a lake!
Comments are always welcome.

Spend the weekend in St Ignace, and posted some pics I took from the
State Park there. Got some good pics of the Round Island lighthouse
and the Round Island Passage light (some times called the Mackinac
Island Lighthouse, although it is off shore in the water).
The pic on the main page is of the Round Island lighthouse (1894) and
taken from the Straits State Park aprox 4.8 miles away.
There are also some pics of the Mackinac Bridge. This is one of my
favorite subjects! I have posted a few different looks at it,
including a night one. For those not familiar with the bridge I put
up some brief information it in the Files area including some links to
more information.
It was a hot weekend.. a good time to be near the water. Spend the
weekend up North and posted some pics taken just North of Charlevoix
on Lake Michigan.
Found some cool sand dunes to play on.. the pictures really don't do
them justice.. the dunes were about 50 feet about the Lake shore and
provided an impressive view.
The haze on the lake shows how hot and humid it was.
Pics are in the !Newest folder
A word about the water color of Tahquamenon Falls...
The amber color of the water is not rust nor is it muddiness. It is
caused by tannin leached from the Cedar, Spruce and Hemlock in the
swamps drained by the river. The extremely soft water churned by the
action of the falls causes the extensive amounts of foam which has
been the trademark of theTahquamenon since the days of the voyageurs.

Made the long trip to the Upper Penninsula this weekend. Weather was
less than good, as it rained off and on all weekend. I drove 707
miles and saw a lot of ground. Saw many places I had never been
before including Paradise, Whitefish Point, Tahquamenon, Newberry....
I have added some pics to the !Newest Pics folder. Including some of
the Mackinaw bridge at night, Whitefish & Round Island lighthouse, and
Upper and Lower Tahquamenon Falls.
Was up in the middle of the state this weekend. I took some pictures
between Gladwin and West Branch along the Tittabawassee River above
Secord Lake. Nothing too spectactular, spring has not sprung there..
the trees are still bare. Nice to walk along the river and enjoy the
fact that there was no snow (although we had hail later in the day).
The pictures are in the Photos section in the "!Newest" folder.
Comments are always welcome.
Greetings,
I was in Charlevoix this weekend and took some pics of Round Lake, the
Pine River Channel and the Lighthouse, and Lake Michigan.
I took a few night pictures also. The pics are in the !Newest Photos
in the pictures section.
A few explainations about the pics.. Lake Charlevoix in N.W.
Michigan feeds into Round Lake which is a anchorage harbor.. they goes
into the Pine River Channel and out to Lake Michigan.
The pics of Round Lake are from the mouth of the channel looking
toward Lake Charlevoix. The Coast Guard boat is in what you see
docked at the mouth. I assume it is the Acadia, that is what was
stationed there last year. There is also a pic from about the same
spot looking back up the channel toward the lighthouse.. you can see
the draw bridge that crosses the channel. There are some pics of the
bridge open in the Charlevoix folder.
There are a couple of pics of Medusa which is a cement factory just
North of the Lighthouse.
Took a trip to the Straits of Mackinac yesterday. It was a pleasant
day, but still lots of ice on the Lakes. I posted some pictures I
took. While there is still ice everywhere, the shipping season is
open. The Soo opened on Friday, and there is a path cut in the ice
through the Straits. We spoted the freighter Burn's Harbor as we
crossed the bridge and got some pics of it as it moved between
Mackinac and Round Islands.
The new camera is working out great, along with the long lens I got a
picture of the Round Lake lighthouse which was about 7 miles away from me.
I was in Detroit on Monday to visit the Auto Show. While I was
there I took a few pictures (of course). In the photo section there
is a Detroit folder. A few pics of the gleaming towers of the Ren
Cen.. and for contrast some pics of the ruins of E Grand Blvd.
Enjoy,
Robber
Great snow pictures!
Snow looks so great when you forget how bad it is by
the end of February!
I hope you guys had a great thanksgiving, I sure did.
School is going well but busy, exams are next week so
there's very little me-time to catch up on things.
Hope all is well!

Hope everybody has a good Thanksgiving!
We got our first snow last night.. the wet snow that sticks to
everything and looks pretty.. I wonder if I will still be this
excited about snow in February when it is *still* here - lol
I put a folder called '!First Snow' with some pics I took this
morning.
Another beautiful weekend, and another weekend up north.
I added 5 more pics that I took on Sunday in Charlevoix.
I especially like the first one looks at the back of the Coast Guard
cutter moored in Round Lake at Charlevoix.

I was at Lake Charlevoix last weekend. I have added a folder
called !Sept with some photos.
I found a large hill overlooking the lake and got some cool photos.
Along with a picutre of the lake right after sunrise, with the mist
still on the water, and if you look closely a sliver of moon high in
the sky.

I just looked at your new pictures. they are good. ... Particularly the one
of
Mitchell on the sidewalk with his shadow, and I like the one at Mr. Andrews
office. Have you printed these out and sent them up to your Mom? I'm
going north on Tuesday , and will met her in Clare for lunch. She sounds
good on the telephone. I still have not figured out how to send my photos. I
jsut bought a digital camera, and am hopefully going get familiar with it while
I
am North. Shum
Welcome,
It seems that I am always taking pictures, so I have decided to
start a group to share some of them. Most of the pictures will be
of places in my home state of Michigan. Please feel free to
comment on any of the pictures. As you can tell I love the lakes,
and enjoy visiting them when I can. I also am impressed by the
Mackinac Bridge, and have many, many pictures that I have taken of
it.
Have fun, look around, feel free to post!
Thanks for joining :)
