Chetan,

I am assuming that you have already gone through http://fireeagle.yahoo.net/developer/documentation/php_walkthru . If not, it provides a pretty good example to get you started.

Beyond that, you can specify any URL which can be accessed from Fire Eagle as the callback URL. You need to handle a request to your URL with a GET param specifying the OAuth Request token with which you sent the user to the Fire Eagle site for authentication and approval. The GET param to your URL is 'oauth_token'

So, you need to provide a URL like 'http://myapp.domain/myapp/mycallback' which will be called from Fire Eagle as:

'http://myapp.domain/myapp/mycallback?oauth_token=<request token>

Hope this helps.

I searched all over the web for an interface to Fire Eagle for Joomla. Finding
nothing, I ended up creating an extension for Joomla 1.5.

So, for those of you wanting to add Fire Eagle support check out MTFireEagle
http://www.moto-treks.com/MTFireEagle

Enjoy

Since this is not an app but an SDK, it needs to be manually added. Hope to see it there soon.

Chetan,

you should be sending a URL of the form:

'https://fireeagle.yahooapis.com/oauth/access_token?oauth_consumer_key=xxxxxxxx&oauth_nonce=E4kDu9RJw0cLz0eUWfzn&oauth_signature_method=HMAC-SHA1&oauth_timestamp=1236320564&oauth_token=yyyyyyyyyyyy&oauth_version=1.0&oauth_signature=zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz'

Note the difference is that your URL does not have the 'oauth_token' parameter, which in case of accessing access_token, should be the value of the 'Request Token' with which you have sent the user to Fire Eagle for authentication. On submitting the request token, you will be given back the access token. I feel that you are trying to directly call some underlying API (or else, the call to getAccessToken() would have checked if you have a valid OAuthToken [to be used for request] and would not have let the call happen).

Maybe you can submit a code fragment of what you are doing, so that it is easier to figure out. I could not follow the stack trace, since the latest fireeagle.php from github is showing strange codes at those lines.

Chetan,

thanks for the confirmation. I am happy to tell you that you have caught a typo error w.r.t the error messages: It should say "Token provided must be a request token.". However, that does not solve your problem...

Since you are passing the oauth_token in the GET request, the real problem is, what is that token? How did you get it? Obviously, Fire Eagle does not think it is a token that your app retrieved with a call to /oauth/request_token (use getRequestToken to make that call and to get back a request token). So, can you please check what is the token and how your app obtained it?

As I already mentioned, a code flow (if not actual code) of your app would help here.

On submitting the request token, you will be given back the access token. I feel that you are trying to directly call some underlying API (or else, the call to getAccessToken( ) would have checked if you have a valid OAuthToken [to be used for request] and would not have let the call happen).

You have to redirect the user to Fire Eagle the first time for authorization.
Once that is complete and they return to your site, you can fetch an auth token,
store it for later use, and re-use that to gain access to their information
without sending them to the login page again.

FYI, for anyone using the C# FireEagle library from
http://code.google.com/p/fireeaglenet/, I just uploaded a fix for the issue
where the "neighborhood" location type was causing an error.

Please let me know if you see any errors following this change (or anything else
with the library!)

Thanks

Hi Gagan,

looks like the PHP Curl is returning a 0 status code when trying to make the request. In this case, your actual request has not been received by Fire Eagle and you should be good to send the same GET request via command line using 'curl <the URL in your message>' This should help you (hoping that curl has verbosity options that tell you exactly what is going wrong) debug the problem. Note that you need to run the command line curl from the same m/c that made the original PHP request.

BTW, it is a better idea not to give out your sensitive tokens and secrets in the message posts. In future, please try to mark them as XXXXXX (see some other previous posts where this is done).

Hi,

I'd like to create an application which updates my Twitter location when my Fire
Eagle location changes. This could be extended to synchronize several sites with
my Fire Eagle location.

1. Does an application like this already exist? I couldn't find one Googling.
2. Is there anyway for Fire Eagle to call a script when the location changes?
webhooks.org style?

Many thanks

Ans> In a way, yes. We have two methods:

1. Pull: If you run a cron type job that keeps pulling recent updates via the 'recent'API (http://fireeagle.yahoo.net/developer/explorer/0.1/recent). This however, requires a general token, which is what is issued when you register your app as a web application.

2. Push: We have recently introduced XMPP support for this. Please see: http://fireeagle.yahoo.net/developer/documentation/xmpp_faq and http://fireeagle.yahoo.net/developer/documentation/xmpp_faq

Personally, I think the XMPP way is the better approach.

Hope this helps.

yes I looked through the app gallery thanks. I couldn't see anything either,
just Sparrow but that updates Twitter as a separate process rather than
synchronising it with Fire Eagle. Having this mechanism would make an
application extendible to other services, e.g. update Fire Eagle and my Twitter,
Facebook, blog, etc is all updated at the same time as once swift action.

This however, requires a general token, which is what is issued when you
register your app as a web application.
