On the Dear Adobe site, Robert Christensen responds to some of the more common complaints about AIR. Personally, I didn't think most of the responses were that great (a lot of Linux complaints), but one response provides a link to his talk on monetizing AIR applications; that was interesting.

The only difference between the two pages is that we updated the white “locations” text in the blue bar at the top of the page. Nothing else has changed in the .fla.
We had this problem earlier this year. We added a new location (Philadelphia) and the animation went missing. Then, all of a sudden, the animation started appearing again!
So I need some help sorting this out. Any suggestions? Anyone available for a little contract work?

I'm sorry but, if I think of video editing like a lady in a tight
skirt and high heels, I'm not going to get much work done. Nice
analogy though.

The grid has long been used in layout design. This website offers
many resources for designing with grids: articles, tools, books, and
templates. You can even make the grid visible on the web site by
clicking the link in the upper-right corner.
I don't know how long the article will be on the front page, but
in the first column on the left, second down, you can find the
following article: Designing Grid Systems for Flash. The second column,
Tools, has an article (the first one) for "Blueprint CSS Framework."

I have a quick question Robert. In AE if you
used the uncompressed
preset meaning no compression is that a better quality then the

the animation preset still kick out an .mov file or is that my choice?

The oddity is that I can import the same file to After Effects.

Speaking of Grids. I love them. I have a production blog that I've been
working on and have more posts coming soon but I tend to deal with
audio and asset creation for flash and games. My blog is called Mesh.
You have a choice at gee-zu.com one for Mesh and BS.
Mesh is at: http://gee-zu.com/blog/
I have a post talking about building Isometric Grids in Illustrator CS3
and building grids in perspective not so much about web pages. But I
thought I would chime in with this resource as well.

iMovie is an additional purchase. I was hoping my $$$ software could handle some simple home movies... Thanks Adobe! I actually found that Canon's crappy free-ware did the job (simple cuts / edits). Just sad I can't (easily) use my slick, professional(?) app to do the job.

I believe that if After Effects will import it, then you already have the right
codec
somewhere on your hard drive. It's just a matter of figuring out which one it
is, locating it
in the folder where After Effects stores it's codecs, and then copying it into
the folder
where Premiere stores it's codecs. I don't know where those folders are, but for
QuickTime
they're in QuickTime folder, in the Library folder (you're on a Mac, right?). As
a last resort,
you could copy all the codecs that After Effects has into Premiere. It might not
work, but
it's worth a try.
Good luck,
Chuck

I have a button removing child. Some of the
swf's have sound and of
course the sound doesn't stop when I remove child. Here is my button code.
couldn't you just use a "screen-shot" from the video itself, and make a pretty PLAY button over the top, and treat that whole image like a button that starts the video? no one would know. :D

I downloaded tour de Flex and have looked through it to see how it works but think I might have to skip this particular functionality for a little bit longer - I am not sure I am quite ready for Flex... but thanks for the help.. Maybe after a couple more classes at Easel I will give it a whirl. :0) Thank you!

I normally post jobs for flash but have an actual flash need for our
own website. See www.ondemandgroup.com. I actually created this CSS
site on my own from a template. I have no formal training on web
development, just a hobby. I actually own CS3, but don't have the
desire/time to learn flash.
I would like to add a small flash slideshow to replace the "woman"
picture on my home page. Anyone intersted in doing this/bidding it let
me know. Just shoot an email to sean@... if you have an
interst and approximate cost. Can of course provide more details.

I have a button removing child. Some of the swf's have sound and of
course the sound doesn't stop when I remove child. Here is my button code.
function goHome (e:MouseEvent):void
{
this.removeChild(swfLoader);
}
homeBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, goHome);
Can I add a stopAllSounds here? And if so, how?
Please help if you can.
Thanks

Are you using Flash or Flex? If Flash, are you using
ActionScript 2.0 or ActionScript 3.0? In either case, make a button sitting on
top of the video player. Give it an instance name (like start_btn). Give your
video component an instance name as well (like flvPlayer) Make sure the video
player’s autoPlay property is set to false.
If ActionScript 2:
On your actions layer, put this code:
start_btn.onRelease = function():Void
{
flvPlayer.play();
start_btn._visible = false;
}
This will start playing the video player and hide the button
when the button is clicked. Here’s the ActionScript 3.0 version:

I apologize right off the bat, because I am a newbie at flash - but I
cannot figure out how to create a flash video file that starts like
the YouTube videos, where you see a screen grab of the video itself
with a play button, instead of the black flv placeholder before the
video starts.
I am using progressive download for the video itself and I am assuming
I have to change the video parameters from auto play = true to auto
play = false to keep the video itself from launching immediately, and
that the screen grab image (or the play button on top of it) becomes a
button that somehow integrates AS code to play the video on a click
event... but I am sad to say that I have yet to figure out how to do
it. Does this make any sense to anyone??? Any suggestions?
