You need Perl and Perl/TK installed for it to run in linux. By
default most linux distros if not all do not install these two.
Hi,
Do you support your software???? I cann't get foldmonitor to run

I was having same problem w/v5.1.10. v5.1.4 took care of it.
Didn't need to do anything with Preferences.

I have it working fine, however the protien is small. Does anyone
know how to make this bigger so that it takes up the whole screen?
Ive been screwing with calculations but cant quite seem to get it
right. If I increase the camera distance variable, the title goes
away and the image goes WAY offcenter.
Just wanted to make sure if anyone else has done this before I get
banging on it.
This is the 6th one today and on 3 different computers. None have
been recognized by Foldmonitor. Also It seems that all 6 of them had
BAD_FRAME_CHECKSUM and were not uploaded, but just deleted!
I am using Foldmonitor 5.1.4.

I would just go back to 5.1.3 if that worked ok for ya.
5.1.4 is a test for the latest stuff that has changed the size of the
data it writes to the chk file and nothing else.
As for the scrollbar it's there and may be off the edge of the window.
If you changed your font size or something that would do it. Send me a
screenshot so I can see

Bug:
Foldmonitor 5.1.4 shows me working on frame 444444444 of 100 on on
eclient, and 11111111 of 100 on another client., but says i'm 84.4%
and 51.1% complete. These are old clients, 2.12 and 2.15 respectivly,
i'm waiting till they finish their frames next week to upgrade.
Suggestion:
Since I've got 10 clients, and the client list only shows the first
7, could you add a scroll bar? (it looks like it is supposed to be
there, there is a blank space, but no bar. Any of the big lists
(Foldmonitor totals, client, history) should have working scroll bars.
Running win98SE
Thanks!! I use your program all the time (it's the only indication I
have that something is wrong with my machines most times) and it is
invaluable to me. Quirky, but invaluable.
Would you mind telling me what your chk per frame is set to?
Thanks,
Vincent

I am Sorry I must have lost my first reply. Anyway It seems to be
working just fine here. I have 3 clients and they are all working
just fine and they are current with the frame counts.

Okay ... I feel like an IDIOT. How long has that "Add Client" button
been there? =)
I don't see a way to delete a client via the GUI, 'tho.
BTW - I just installed 5.1.4 ... it is VERY nice! Thanks for all
your work.

Den,
How big a deal would it be to add functionality to add and delete
clients to FM via the GUI?
This would be one less reason for users to be messing with the config
file.
Just a thought.
Also ... the history feature seems to have gone away since I
installed 5.1.3 ... but this is also about the time I started running
two images of FAH in seperate directories with the -local switch
set. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I was under the impression that FM was unsupported. I'm glad to find
I was mistaken.

It appears to be working. Thanks:)
Vincent
This is a quick fix for the fractional frame numbers people are
seeing. Under preferences you can change the "chk per frame" size. The
newer stuff seems to be 36 instead of 40 like the older stuff.
It's a quick fix, but a fix

Try 5.1.4
I added a setting under preferences called "Chk size per frame". Try
setting this to 36. Older cores seemed to be 40. I noticed the
fractional stuff myself. This is a quick fix.
Give it a try and let me know

For a couple of weeks now, using 5.1.2 and 5.1.3, the monitor does
not keep track correctly of what the client has finished. For
instance: my client tells me that it has finished 89 out of 100
frames from proteinA, however, the monitor tells me that it's working
on frame 80.1 (yes, eighty point one, an achievement in itself!:))
and currently working on frame 82 out of 100. Result of this is that
the expected end of WU is wrong. How can I correct this?
Thanks,
Vincent
Hello,
Is it ok to ask for help on the folding2pov script in this forum? I
am running the script under windows98 using activeperl and cannot get
it to work.
I changed the required path settings in the script. It runs and
says:
looking for current workunit number: Using Ver2 client detected
then it gets this error message:
cannot open c:\program files\folding\render/folding.pov at 2pov.pl
line 196
The script generates this .pov file before it tries to open it in
povray correct? Is the script skipping a step? Am I missing
something obvious? Please advise!
Guy
As the title says, can I have FoldMonitor run a user-defined task
each time a WU completes? Specifically I would like to use this to
work around a bug in the Linux version of FAH that doesn't set the
permissions right (yes, I have reported it), but I could visualize
other uses such as shutting down FAH after it completes the current
frame, sending an email when frames complete, etc.
Would you consider adding a switch so I can turn off that pretty GUI
and just get the HTML stats?
I don't have X on my Linux system at the moment & I'd rather keep as
little running on my Windows system as possible.
Thanks!!

I agree. Den can probably enlighten you on how the program does its
data gathering [when he drops by here.] :)

Spectre, thanks for confirming my thoughts. I fully understand and
support the position that the Monitor must be as unobtrusive as
possible, and I do everything I can to give Folding all available CPU
cycles. I find it odd that the Monitor is smart enough to get info
about the current WU in progress, even if the WU began while the
Monitor was inactive, but isn't intelligent enough to read FAHlog.txt
once when the Monitor is started. There is good info in this file,
and the Monitor could use it at startup.

The Foldmonitor program determines the total number of completed
workunits by monitoring logfiles it generates when work is completed,
not by totals at Stanford. You must have the foldmonitor running when
work is completed or foldmonitor wont log it.
Hope this helps,
Spectre [DSLR Team Helix]

I'm a new Monitor user and am having difficulty getting the Monitor to recognize
that a WU has completed and log the same. I haven't finished reading the
messages on this group, but will post my questions anyway.
I have three processors all running the console client and the Monitor provides
the correct information in its display. Sometimes I leave the Monitor running,
sometimes not. The error that prompted this post occurred while the Monitor was
off.
Does the Monitor have to be open when a WU completes?
Is there a way to get the Monitor to accept information from the clients FAHlog?
Regards, Dash
I run the Folding console client.
I recently installed the Monitor for my Folding clients and am
concerned that the Monitor fails to detect that WU's have completed.
On the Folding client console are several completed WU's, yet none of
them are logged by the Monitor. I attribute this to the monitor
being inactive when the WU completed. Is this true?
I have Monitor logging turned on. How can I get the client console info into the
Monitor log?
Regards, Dash
run foldmonitor. Sometimes the clients just quit when i get home....
Been watching the process here for a couple of hours and it occurs
when foldmonitor updates the screens and stuff. At that point the
client gets a Q for quit, uploads and exit. Must say that it occurs
ocaisional but not before i used foldmonitor.
