Palm's in an uphill battle: Pre vs. iPhone, rumored Foleo vs. rumored iTablet.
It's fun news actually, especially for us consumers!

Yes, it does look good.
I have an Eee 901 with XP now. I eventually gave up waiting for a
Foleo II.....but I am still hoping. ;)
Looking forward to hearing about Palm's "new-ness" announcement tomorrow.

PDA's are yesterday. Foleo/netbooks will be this generation's PDA. I
don't think they will be ahead enough to announce devices at CES, i am
expecting only an OS announcement.

Thanks for reminding us of what we will never have Ben! :D
Seriously we're glad to here from you. I guess you using a netbook
says more about what functionality the original Foleo could actually
bring.
I am not gonna push my luck anymore and ask you about future Foleo

I don't mean to pee in your Wheaties, but the 2133 has actually a higher-res screen AND a better processor (IMO).
1000 = 10" WSVGA (1024x600) resolution
2133 = 8.9" WXGA (1366x768) resolution (70% more viewable space)
1000 = Intel Atom 1.6GHz 2133 = Via C7-M 1.2GHz The Intel CPU has a faster clockspeed, but it isn't significantly faster than the Via unless the application you're running supports hyperthreading. The Via proc, on the other hand, is MUCH more power-efficient than the Atom, meaning those meager 3-cell batteries will last quite a bit longer on the 2133 (plus less power consumption for the smaller screen).
All told, I think the 2133 is the better unit, despite it being "older" (not everything that's newer is better).

Haaaa,
Who needs a netbook with a Lifeflash? 8gb of flash memory (more than base EEE
4g), 12 hours battery life (4x most netbooks), bright vibrant screen, tons of
apps from tons of developers, many free. Bought mine for 100$, the price of
1/3 of one of your netbooks. I have gizmo for IM, AgendusMail for Gmail, and

in retrospect, I don't think Windows on a machine like that is feasable.
I may try to install it on an SD card eventually, but I think for such small

I ended up getting the Eee PC 901 with XP about a month ago.
It has a 4GB C drive and a 8GB D drive. I found that only 4GB for C
drive is limiting since some applications (especially Google products)
download automatically to the C drive. I have made use of CCleaner
which has helped a lot. Now that I have set it up with the programs
that I use though I don't find the smaller C drive to be a problem. I
still don't have many Google things installed though. lol.

Thanks Ben for replying! Of course we won't ever know what Palm's plan would be
but
thanks for sharing what netbook you're using for the meantime.
As for me, I've never posted it but I passed on my EeePC to my father-in-law

I actually bought the 1st Gen Eee PC. I was pretty happy with it
because I learned a lot about Linux. I even experimented with various
installation methods for Windows XP.
I took a long look at my needs and eventually settled with an iPhone.
As for the HP Mini, it has a 3 cell battery so that may be a problem.
Anyway, good luck with your purchase and let us know what happens!

@doug I don't think Apple will pursue this and for good reason. Look at what's
happening
now, the "netbook" market is already saturated. Take a look at one in a coffee
shop and
you'd never identify a netbook's brand (unless you're tech savvy).
Apple is staying with their plan, so to speak. I believe they've perfected
integration within
their applications and that is feature completeness in my book.
@ron it's good to know your needs. A MacBook is definitely out of the picture
but an
iPhone or even an iPod touch could probably satisfy most of your needs. However,
may I
suggest the Eee PC 1000 series or even the MSI Wind? It looks like it could
handle *all* of
what you're looking for.

Hmmm ... I don't know about his assertion about this validating his
product, I think the Asus EEE (which I'm writing this on in a hotel)
both sparked and validated the netbook category - both from a feature
perspective as well as a cost perspective.
There have been small notebooks before, but they were all expensive
(Sony, Powerbook). but the EEE was the first that didn't skimp too
much on features and delivered on size and price. $300 for a machine
capable of running windows and as expandable as it is? Foleo was a
long way away from that.

Hawkins is pleased the PC giants have validated the market, but he sees much
room for
improvement among their early so-called "netbooks."
Hawkins spoke to IBD recently about his netbooks and, for the first time at
length, on his
experience with the Foleo.
