Description

Food Not Lawns is turning yards into gardens, and neighborhoods into communities around the world.

What's in our big picture: a thriving human ecology, permaculture, sustainable cities, growing and eating local organic food, graywater systems, biodynamics, water catchment, reuse, living simply, diy, low consumption, low-tech solutions to high-tech problems, sharing, helping--rebuilding communities, one lawn and one family at a time.

What's in our microcosm picture: encouraging friends and neighbors to grow their own food; sharing knowledge, skills, and resources with each other and our greater community; updating Springfield's zoning laws in reference to food security; volunteering our time and energy to each other, making community the focus of our activities.

We are a decentralized network of interested and interesting people. There is no one "in charge"; whoever feels moved to hold meetings or events, does. As it is, we hold at least monthly educational meetings to share knowledge and skills on a wide variety of topics. We hold an annual seed and plant swap, and have occasional social events (usually involving movies and food) as they are organized.

We in Springfield hope to begin to share knowledge, skills, and community with our fellow citizens. Shall you join us in our quest to regrow and regreen our fair city?

"We should make our home and neighborhood the most democratic, the most beautiful and the holiest in the world." --Vachel Lindsay

Re: leaves
burning leaves is not a good option. 1 it is bad for air quality and people with asthma. 2. Those nutrients should be put back into the earth in people's own
