Friends,
Jeffrey Kegler's impressive collection of signatures to the letter to Intel
has a hidden side to it that would help onlookers understand why so many
people felt compelled to add their endorsement.
People who signed via the WWW page had a field to submit a comment. To
this point only a couple of people have seen the comments -- Jeffrey of
course, and Randal and me as backup receivers of the signatures.
The 800+ comments are quite rich in their coverage. Some are simply best
wishes to Randal. Others relate people's related experiences, or their
feelings about Intel, or their feelings about computer crime and computer law.
What I'd propose to do is publish a digest of most of the comments. The
digest would present comments anonymously; this would require a few cases
of light editing to remove the possibility that the writer's identity could
be guessed. I would omit comments that were plain best wishes and ones
that said administrative things such as "I do speak for my company."
We would put the digest on Jeffrey's WWW site or on the Lightlink case archive.
Any thoughts about the concept or editing tactics?
(Could someone with the appropriate authority please repost this to
fors-announce? I don't think I am authorized to post there. Thanks)
-- thanks, SP
