As a buildup to FOSS.IN we are running a series called "Know
the speakers". The first episode of this series features
Thomas Gleixner.
==Speaker Bio:==
Thomas Gleixner has worked on industrial embedded devices for over 20
years. During the last 9 years he has focused on Linux for industrial
applications. He has contributed to Linux in several ways. He is the
main author of the hrtimer subsystem and the high resolution timer
implementation on top of hrtimers and a major contributor to Ingo
Molnars real time preemption patch. He is maintainer of the timer
related code and the NAND Flash driver in the Linux kernel.
He is the founder of linutronix a german linux service provider with a
clear focus on embedded and industrial usage of Linux.
==Interview:==
1) How did you get involved ?
Curiosity got me involved. I was working on embedded 8/16bit systems
and wanted to know how a real operating system works. Linux was very
small and understandable back in 1992 and the source was open to read
and play around with it. Linux 0.96 was my first kernel contact and I
still have a working boot floppy around from that time.
2) What are you best known for?
grep tglx linux/MAINTAINERS but I really do not care much about that.
3) What are your expectations of FOSS.IN/2007?
I expect a lifely conference and having lot of contacts with people I
never met before.
4) What excites you most about FOSS?
Solving complex problems by working with the most excellent brains all
over the world, who would be not accessible for me in a closed source
environment.
5) Funniest thing you have ever read in a source file or a funny
moment related to foss?
linux/arch/x86/kernel/tsc_32.c: -johnstul@... "math is hard,
lets go shopping!"

Turning Linux into a Real-time Kernel
Hope you enjoyed the first episode of "Know the speakers". More in the pipe!
