Our hosting service was affected by the power outages that struck L.A.
this afternoon.
The latest from them is:
"Serious electricity problems in the Los Angeles area took our entire
network off-line for a few hours. Service is currently being restored.
Power to our data center has now been restored and our network is back
up. Our servers and equipment are being powered on gradually to avoid
potentially damaging power spikes. Barring any complications, your
websites and email will be fully operational again very soon."
Dear Muketurtle:
There appears to be no way a user of Frathwiki can report a problem.
If there is such a way, it is not referred to by any "Help" page.
-----
The Kilda Kelen or Neo-Khitanese "Talk:" page has been re-directed to
the "League of Lost Languages" page. There is no way to add "Talk:"
about Kilda Kelen. If one tries, it is not even misplaced as "Talk:"
about the LLL; instead it merely disappears into the bit-bucket.
Web host's verdict:
<< There currently is an issue with a blade in one of the core
routers and it is being replaced, so the servers are still
unreachable until this issue is corrected. >>

Hopefully this won't take long.
Assuming it is back up by this evening, IBWiki will be locked and go
down [hopefully only briefly] while we get it upgraded to 1.9.2.

The backup file for IB Wiki hasn't been put here for a while because
it has become too large to post on this group (Y! imposes a 5MB
limit).
Backups for both sites will now be available at:

All usernames of the pattern [A-Z][a-z0-9][a-z0-9][A-Z][a-z0-9][a-z0-9]
belong to a persistent spambot. (Anonymous editing is disabled on FrathWiki
so the bots are configured to create accounts before spamming. On more open
wikis they would just spam anonymously. That it is a bot is pretty much
certain, due to some quirks in how it processes text.)
> Can't you stop him? (or more probably "it" or "them" than "him")
A username blacklist has been put into effect for the pattern of names
generated by this bot, so it can create no more usernames unless
it changes its pattern. However the accounts from the latest batch
were created before the blacklist was put into effect; they have been
lurking.
and:

The account has been banned infinitely, as have the others contributing
to the latest batch of spam.

That is horrible! I hope something can be done to put a permanent stop
to this.

Uh cause he's a jerk. Sorry to hear what happened to your page. You
should have it protected so only you can post things on there. I hate
spam!
Hi there
I'm new here, so please excuse a dumb question. On the Frathwiki editing page,
I don't seem to be able to find eng (the n with a leftward-turned-in hook on
the right side). Can someone give me an idea of the general area it's in?

Found it. The font I was using decided to display it identically to 'n'. I've
now changed the font, and a lurker gave me a hand to change the étas which I
had been using to engs.

What does "bouncing" mean in this message? And I think remember
getting a message from josalyne. It was spam though....think it was
something about "biker chicks".

"bouncing" means that when Yahoo! tries to send them the messages from the
list, the server they've stated their email address is on tells them there's
no such address and sends the message back.

I've removed their memberships. Also, you catch a lot of these, so
I've given you the moderator ability to do so yourself in the future.

You can tell by googling that that person has sent spam to several
other groups. This group auto-moderates new message submissions (until
the poster gets whitelisted) so spam doesn't make it in, though.

That's good hear though. I wish all the Yahoo groups were like that it would make alot better and more people I think IMO would want to join what ever group interest them.

Oh WOW! What a weird coincidence because when I tried replying to
messages via email the exact same thing would happen to me so I would
just reply on the webpage.

A whitelist is the opposite of a blacklist; basically the idea is
that you can indicate that a person's contributions are expected to be
acceptable (so the moderation process won't detain them).

Hi,
I just put up brief descriptions of a couple more of my conlangs (I'd
already put another one up earlier). My user page is qiihoskeh. I have
a couple questions.
1) I have one of them in Category:Romance conlangs. Should I also put
it in the higher categories as well (Indoeuropean, and A posteriori
conlangs, I think)? It seems some wikis don't like that sort of thing.
2) If so, how do I list multiple categories? I looked through the
linked help pages.
Thanks.

I don't know.

I've done that; I had no trouble. What's the problem?

Obviously I haven't helped yet. But look at "adpihi" and "reptigan"
and see what their categories look like (in source); that might give
you a hint.

I just looked. None of your pages are in categories as far as I can
tell. How do I look at the source?

As far as frathwiki goes, you're right. Sorry about that.
> How do I look at the source?
< http://conlang.wikia.com/index.php?title=Reptigan&action=edit >
show only one Category, so they're no help.
But
shows, at the bottom,
[[Category:Religion of Adpihi]]
[[Category:Geography of the Planet Adpihi]]
[[Category:History of the Planet Adpihi]]
------
Also
< http://conworld.wikia.com/\
index.php?title=Reptigan_Union&action=edit >
shows, at the bottom,
[[Category:Culture of the People of Adpihi]]
[[Category:History of the Planet Adpihi]]
[[Category:Reptigan]]
[[Category:Species and Member Systems of the Reptigan Union]]
.
---------
So it looks like all you need to do is have a different "category"
line for each category. Like so:
[[Category:A]]
[[Category:B]]
[[Category:C]]
[[Category:X]]
[[Category:Y]]
[[Category:Z]]
