Digi-Comp beats a textbook anyday   Message List

I am a college student and have been teaching myself boolean algebra, digital
circuit design, and some computer theory. I find the stuff fascinating, but hard
to find good explanations for. All of the best explanations so far come from old
books from the 60s and 70s that I have found and purchased on eBay. I also cam
across the Digi-Comp I v2.0 and purchased one. I just finished putting it
together last night and was delighted beyond belief when the B digit actually
toggled between 0 and 1. It is the first thing that I have ever built from start
to finish and have it actually work.

Also, I am thrilled to see the theories and concepts that I have been reading
about in action. To see the meaning behind the 1s and 0s instead of just going
on the idea that is taught today that they are a fundamental function of the
"magic box" (computer). But never and real explanation. Digi-Comp changed all of
that and the learning experience I have gained from it beats a text book anyday.
It's a shame that children aren't brought up with kits like these anymore. I
wish I could have had something like this.

Try a Radio Shack kit, Models "28-278","28-280" (and maybe "28-281"). You can get them on eBay for much less than retail. Much easier than rebuilding something...
