Hello
I had recently reformatted my PC and just now reinstalled Frontpage 2003 and
Sharepoint Designer. Both will still not display Site files, in fact they look
like they are trying to open files but things just flicker in the status bar. I
did run fpcleaner anyway but obviously it had nothing to clean since
reformatting and new installs. Attached is a zip file (654KB) of the website to
see if others can see my problem.
Regards
Rob

Hello Tina
The websites were created with the same frontpage 2003 application and the
website folders have the emerald icon on them. It just a mystery why the
files won't list when 'open site' is pointed directly at that web folder
(but files are most definitely there in Explorer). I have discovered that
they won't open in Sharepoint Designer either. If you know someplace I can
upload this site folder to, perhaps you could take a look at it. Its only
1.3MB since the student gave up on it.
Regards
Rob

What happened when you ran fpcleaner... did that fix it?

is this just on one computer?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to make something the same on every page, instead of copy and pasting
it can someone tell me an easy way of doing that? I did it before with DWT but I
received errors when I published even though I had front page server extentions.

I had a DWT header and then went in to every page inserted the Header. Which
was great when I wanted to update all. I just started redoing the website and
it's going to go from 5-pages to 10 so I figure I better get this right now or
I'm really in for a big pain.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

What sort of errors were you getting with a DWT?

You don't need to publish with FPSE to use a DWT but you do have to publish
all the pages that are attached to a DWT when you update it.

Tina has a free ebook on using DWTs in FrontPage. I suggest you get it and
make sure that you understand how they work and what you need to do to work
with them effectively. http://any-frontpage.com

Expression Web 3 which includes Web, Expression Encoder (video) and
Expression Design. Upgrade price $79

I much prefer it but it isn't "easier" since it requires that you learn some
HTML/CSS to use it effectively. Download the trial version (and get SP 1)
and the go to http://by-expression.com and download the asset file for the
Basic Website tutorial then work along with the tutorial which was created
for FP users to learn what you need to know to use it properly.

What follows is NOT official by any means and People Who Know will tell you
it is wrong

Nevertheless, it is My Personal opinion

Expression Web is the latest version of FrontPage
When Microsoft decided to upgrade FP the last time they made many changes
including substantial improvements
for "market" reasons they decided that it would be "better" to make a
substantial brand change than just a version number change
FrontPage as a named product is going away
I strongly recommend moving to ExpressionWeb
the question, as I see it, it not "whether" but "when"

again
only my renegade opinion

Your right in thinking there is an option called shared borders
your wrong in saying it may be useful its NOT...

if you have never used shared borders... then never start.... its the path
to hell and back

Use Includes if you can't use dwts... but with the ebook I've never had
anyone tell me they don't understand dwts after reading it.

Hello
The site is not published, its a students effort at learning to create a
website using Frontpage 2003. Our school then marks the final creation, but
since the files disappeared from Frontpage03 we had a problem. I bought a copy
home with me to see if I could fix it, and the website is exactly what I
uploaded. Our O/S is XP Pro. I have since discovered the file .fp_folder_info
inside the hidden _vti_cnf folder may be the culprit. If it is deleted then the
files now list in fp03!! Maybe someone in the group can shed some light on these
hidden folders and their reason for existing.
Regards
Rob

NO, don't use shared borders. They are a bad choice because they are very
limiting giving you very little control over size or placement. FP includes
are a better option, especially when combined with a DWT. They were also
deprecated in favor of DWTs in FP 2003.

Make two copies. Archive one to an external drive, dvd or other media
separate from your computer. Keep the other in case you screw up working on
it so you have a readily available "clean" copy. Then you open your FP
website in EW. Edit as needed.

Expression web won't break any of your bots though you won't be able to edit
some of them such as navigation bots or themes. It is best to remove themes
in FP before you start working on them in EW.

I don't know the answer James. Thank you to everyone who responded to my
question about Expressions Web. I believe I will be moving over to that
program in the near future. When you make the change over to Expressions
Web, how do you go about updating your website which is in Frontpage 2003?

REMEMBER

FP and EW are ONLY authoring tools not hosting tools or delivery tools.

So your question is KIND OF like asking
"When you change typewriters from Smith Corona to an IBM Selectric, how do
you update your novel?

I said "kind of" because there are differences, ESPECIALLY/PRIMARILY for
people who relied on the FrontPage Server Extesionss and much less for
people who used FP to code straight forward HTML that would run without FP
Server Extentions at all.

Hello everyone.

I'm new to this group. I have used FP in the past to create a personal web
site, and now I'm using MS Expression Web. I've run into some problems, so any
help would be much appreciated.

I have a SWish website template that I bought, and I'm trying to edit the
non-flash content using MS Expression Web. Right now, my main concern is that
there's a big empty area to the right of my browser window, while the web pages
appear on the left side of my browser. I'd like for all my web pages to be
centered whenever anyone opens my web site.

I've toyed with my home page and Format> Align> Center, but that didn't seem to
fix the problem.

I've looked at layout.css and style.css, but I'm not certain what to do, if
anything.

So, would someone please tell me how I can center all of the pages on my web
site?

Thanks in advance.
