Tina,

You're absolutely right! I switched (all but the firm name -- gotta
play with that) to sans serif and it's cleaner/more readable. Yes,
lots more work is needed but this definitely is an improvement in
terms of presentation and functionality. Geneva is not loaded onto
my laptop right now, but then I don't have a printer loaded. I'll
download my HP printer onto the laptop and see if I can pick up more
fonts that way. Thanks a million. BTW: no, no logo yet and, yes,
it's sure hard to brand without one -- which is why I'm hanging onto
that darn serif in the letterhead/business cards. oy ;-)

THANK YOU.

Just went for a look... it does look much easier to read and
the button too... the only thing I would now is to put a
link to a bigger disclaimer page and a privacy policy..
truste.com can help with that.. don't forget to look up
sites concerning the sites subject in the area it resides
in.. and see what they have for disclaimers pp etc.. this is
a good way to catch things one misses that are relevant and
necessary to the area the site has the business in...

next thing is your meta tags... see
http://solution-shelf.com and the free fp add-on they have
for that.. plus lots of help on meta tags... and what to
put.. I believe the pics tag is also needed now....

I'm need to place a movie on my site. We have a short VHS promo video. I

Ideas anyone? Thanks!

I'm new to the group and would be grateful for anyhelp.
I upgraded my compter with a new one running xp home, and then
loaded frontpage 2000 on it. I manage about 10 websites, got three
of them opened and they are like file folders under the Mynetwork
places. But frontpage won't allow my to add any other web sites to
my network places. I'm at a loss as what to do.

Chris,
I'll start looking for info.  I just got the xp upgrade but haven't loaded it.  I saw in the booklet it mentioned personal webserver will dissapear now. so it isn't compatible with it.  it also had a note indicating you "do not" need personal webserver to run and manage your sites, and xp can still be your operating system.

I'll look into what to do if it doesn't work like the book said!  also it says you can run xp on your computer in "addition" to 98 etc.  two operating systems at once.  interesting?

From within FP, when I open a page that is not on my published web, another
instance of FP opens. Maybe this is a safety feature, so I'll know that I'm

Ah! Because it's in another folder, not associated with the website you're
currently editing, FP thinks you want to open another web, so it opens
another FP so you can edit it separately. If it is just a page you want to
bring into your existing website, then you can import or cut and paste into
a new page on your existing website. FP only opens one website at a
time...I think it'd be too confusing to have 2 open in one, what with how FP
does the navigation, linking, etc. Makes sense to me.....And, yes, this is
how FP is configured.

Subject: Photos for Commercial Use

Hi,

The website I'm putting together is for a law practice and adding
photos is going to give it a lot more dimension. I'm cautious about
downloading photos even if they are in the public domain since the
site is a commercial use site. Not just that -- public domain photos
seem limited to gavels and law books on a shelf and even though
Microsoft has a good photo of a courthouse, it's one of only two they
offer and maybe a lot of people are using it. I've contacted a
photographer (whose work is excellent) and received a quote of $750-
$1,100 for a limited license for non-exclusive use of a photo from
his collection both on the web and in any brochure I might spin off.
Is this relatively inline with what pro photos cost? Eyewire.com has
been recommended as a good source for photos that aren't expensive.
Has anyone gone that route?

Another thing, FP Reports is giving me a hit count which is really
useful in terms of letting me know the browsers used by people who
visit the site (which I haven't even metatagged for search engines
yet ;-) (xxx of some version of ME, 1 only through Netscape) but what
I'm wondering is if anyone has taken this a step further and found a
program that gives the web address for these visitors? If so, what
are they using? The clear downside of this would be spamming such
visitors, but collecting information for an unsolicited mailing list
wouldn't be why I'd want this kind of information. I'm just curious
about who is viewing it.

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

Has your connection speed changed? Before DSL, sometimes I would get
connected at 33k instead of 52k, and I would get that error. I didn't
realize that plugging more phones/faxes into my dial-up line slowed it
down. Plug any new phones or faxes in to that line? :)

I apologize for cross posting, but I wanted to reach as many people as
possible with this question.

I have a Database Query which searches a Street Database by address.
One of my fields is a Text field where the user would type his/her street
name.
Problem is, if someone hits the spacebar after the street name, they will
get an error (example "S Orange " will be an error, where "S Orange" will
be fine).

How do I get rid of the trailing space on the Street Name field?

The page in question can be found here:

Any help would be great, thank you in advance for your help!!

dstevenson_au

Hi Group

For give me if this has been covered before, but I have searched and
searched for an answer and have come up with nada. I am having
troubles which seems to be a design concept which isn't working for
me. I'll take you a brief background trip...

I redesigned our company's website using top and bottom shared
borders for navigation links, as the previous bright spark had them
*static* (top and left) on ALL 400+ pages, making them overtly
susceptible to outdating (which of course became true). My simple
design was the top and bottom borders flush against the content, in
a "bordered" box style. Please feel free to take a look at
http://www.vacc.asn.au/

Now I have been told to redesign to a more in-your-face look (test
site at http://www.vacc.asn.au/newbvacc/), which would utilise top
and left borders. This concept works quite well with me because I can
just import my current content pages, being the way that I redesigned
it in the first place. Now we hit the rough spot...

Shared borders places an automatic distance beside the left and right
borders. Although you can change this top and bottom by specifying
Left/Left table alignment, nothing seems to work for the left and
right borders. I really need the content next to left border to be
flush against it.

Any ideas? Can I somehow overcome this, or do I need to go and change
all (currently) 502 pages again :(

Any help appreciated. Sorry if I've been long winded ;0)

Daryl

PS. The *new* page has been designed by someone who thinks she can be
a graphic artist with no web background. So it's looking a bit rough
at the moment ;)

Do you mean you want the left and top flush against the side
of the browser?... if so insert this above code into your
html.

if not can you explain again?

btw the second site does not have the bg configured. I know
it's a beta template.. just thought I would mention it:)...
Those top buttons are awful.. the side bar is nice.. we
won't mention the large graphics.. shush ;)

Not quite the answer.. sorry. At least I know what I'm talking
about .. LOL. The issue is in the second site (black/red) where to
the right of the left shared border, there is a margin before the
content starts. This is highlighted by the 'broken' red line (above
the main section). When designing in FP, there is actually a
paragraph mark there which I can't move. It is the same for right
borders as well (in reverse), but not for top or bottom - they can be
flush to the content above/below (as in the first site).

Don't talk to me about those buttons.. hahahaha. They've caused no
end of grief cause I've opted to make them bgds to the cells rather
than individual graphics. And of course they want that top vertical
line coming down to the black line in the main section (only on the
index page) :-|

Thanks,
Daryl

Hi,

This is the first time I've really had a problem with FrontPage2ooo
running on Windows982E.

I've just removed some duplicated files online to my website at:

http://www.victorianturkishbath.org/

hosted by Hostcentric. For the past few months visitors have been using
the Search engine component which appears on the main home page (and
several others) without any problems.

After removeing the files I have, of course, recalculated the hyperlinks
(whichj I have done previously on many similar occasions).

After this edit, however, when I check the search engine for any phrase,
it comes up with zero results and the message:

Error from search: reading from the index file failed Serious error in
search: t.wti\All

I hate having things on my site which don't work (as we all do!).

Please can anyone tell me what to do? Many, many thanks,

Malcolm

Thanks Ed. Your email was the first I read this morning and it cheered me up
no end.

I then decided to add an apology for the non-functioning search bot on my
splash page, republished the web, and miracle of miracles, the bot started to
work again.

Clearly the act of republishing the web cleared the problem. Can't think why
in all my four hours of fiddling around repeatedly recalculating the
hyperlinks, I hadn't tried to republish.

But I'd like to thank everyone who thought about the problem for me, and I
send the explanation in case it ever happens to anyone else.

With all best wishes,

Malcolm

When I embed an image using the resample option, do I need to have
the original image FTPd/published to the server or does the image
become part of the page, in which case I would not FTP/publish it to
the server?

My understanding of embed was that it meant save to the page
by inserting html that linked the picture to the page at
that spot.. (done automatically in FrontPage of course)....

Resampling just changes the picture from one setting with
more pixels to one with less.. which effectively is a new
picture.. and so has to be resaved... if you resample and
then of course you have to resave.. the new picture (I am
presuming your talking about doing this on the hard drive?)
will then reside on the hard drive.. and without
publishing/ftp to the server will NOT appear there.. you
need to publish/ftp it to the server.. because it's a NEW
picture... and you need to update what you have on the hard
drive to the server..

Don't forget to recalculate hyperlinks under the tools menu
before doing so as always...
