Webcam guiding and the FS2   Message List

Hi Michael,

in my observatory I have two piers with two FS2 boxes and two SBig
cameras. The problem I would like to discus here, is when it comes to
long, guided exposures in spectroscopy. Then my ST-8 is attached to
the spectroscope and from here it is unable to guide the telescope at
the same time. So I use a ST-7 to do the job, but this is a waste of
resources. I would be nice to do it with a cheap webcam, but my
attempts to do so, were not satisfying.

I tried several free software products, but none did a good job for
me.
I connected the Philips webcam to the USB-port of my computer and
from here I used a serial connection to the FS2. (I had no problems
with goto and other remote operations.) As I am not an expert for the
LX200 protocol, I don't know if the subset, implemented in the FS2,
is sufficient to allow for this desired sort of guiding.

What are your experiences? Which software is recomended?

Regards,
Udo

Hi Udo, ... The subset of LX200 commands in the FS2 should be sufficient for all autoguiding programs. The Pulse-Guide command is not yet implemented in the...

Hi there! I have very good results by using PHD-Guiding from Stark Labs. It is freeware, calibrates itself and works with ASCOM. I use the "Skysensor 2000"...
