Hi Michael,
I looked up RAP Star Party on Google but didn't find it. Where is it
located?

Hi all,
I'll go to the RAP star party in France from May 25 to 28. If you have
any questions about FS2, come to this star party and ask me. At a star
party there is plenty of time for discussing all questions, much more
time than at the ATT astronomy fair two weeks ago.
The next event will be the Swiss Star Party, 25.-27. August.

The present state is that I spend a lot of time on building FS2's and
on other projects, but I will definitely continue to develop the FS2
software as soon as my time allows.
There is a long list of possible improvements for the FS2 software, for
example permanent PEC, Alt-Az drive, two-star alignment, more LX200
commands, interfacing to a dome rotation drive, and a lot of other
things.
This does take a lot of time, and the working day has only 16 hours.

Subject: [fs2users] No further development of the FS2 ?
Hello,
more than 3 years ago, Michael Koch announced some interesting features for version V1.23 of his FS2-software. I am especially interested in the pec-save function, but there seems to be no progress here, or perhaps the web-pages are outdated? Others here in this group might be interested too? So, Michael, what is the present state in software development?

Dear Michael, Dear Alberto,
Thanks both for your suggestions. One of them worked! The first one,
actually...
> M1_gear should be 705
When I looked at this number, it was 15000 or something in this
range... Does that mean it was going a fair bit faster than 4x?
This also fixed my slew problem. Poor thing, I was asking a bit much
of it.... no wonder it was complaining. In answer to your comments
about balance and physical load, I have had these problems in the
past, and I'm glad that this time I don't have to open the thing up
and try adjusting the motors against the worm gears! I spent some time
getting this "just right" in the past, and had this awful fear that
something in the tranport had knocked the RA motor out of place.
As a precautionary measure, I will now check all the other parameters
against the Astromeccanica text file on this site, just to be sure.
I was quite worried, and now very happy! I missed a gorgeous night of
observing last night, but tonight looks like another winner!
Clear skies,
Andrew
regarding the loud complaining sound from your RA motor I've got the same effect in my FS2 and my conclusion is that happens when the telescope weight is not well balanced because it seems to be very sensitive to that.
My maximum speed is 400x (FS2 on Losmandy G11). Please note that the unbalanced weight can cause also the other problem.
Regards,
Alberto

Hi all,
I have had a FS2 running on an EQ6 mount with Astromeccanica motor kit for about 3 years (purchased Aug 2002, and not upgraded since). It is the 40v version.
For the last year it was packed away because of an international move. This weekend I took it out, hooked it up to a 12v car battery (tried two different batteries actually), and it seems the RA motor is running fast... maybe 4x sidereal.
When I try running the motor at 10x sidereal, (slow slew), it seems to work fine. At 800x it runs for a moment and then makes a loud complaining sound, at which point I take my finger off the button. :)
The tracking rate is set to "stars". The DEC motor works fine when activated.
My first thought was that the voltage from my battery was too high (I also noticed the FS2 box heating up a little after 15 minutes; this is something I have never experienced before). I tried with another battery, and the effect is the same. So now I am not sure.
Any ideas what could cause this, or how I might troubleshoot further?
Hi Andrew,
> For the last year it was packed away because of an international
move.
Did you move from the north to the south hemisphere, or in the other
direction? Then you must change the turning direction of both motors,
that's the parameters M1_L/R and M2_L/R.

Check these parameters:
M1_gear should be 705
M1_FS/R should be 200

Seems that this is a mechanical problem, most probably the clearance
between worm and worm wheel is too small, so that the required torque
is too big. Either reduce the slewing speed (rate 5) or adjust the
mechanical clearance.
> My first thought was that the voltage from my battery was too high
(I also noticed the FS2 box heating up a little after 15 minutes;
Any supply voltage between 10V and 15V is ok for the 40V version.
A little heating up is normal.

Click on this link and it will download the parameter transfer program. This program will permit you to save your current parameters to a file so that they can be reloaded in the event that you somehow loose them or you wish to use the same FS2 on more than one mount of differnt types. It its this file that I am asking people to upload to the folder in the files section so that others may use it that might aquire a mount of your type.
I'm using the recommended parameters values on FS2 system. Please let me know how to proceed and I will update it in your file.

Alberto

Thanks for responding. I'm going to start a file with FS2 settings for different mounts using the FS2 Set Up Program on Michael's site. I would appreciate it if you would add your parameters to it.

I'm curious to know what mounts you are using your FS2 on. I'm using mine on an EQ6 version (Orion Atlas) with internal Astromeccanica motors and hope soon to be using it on another EQ6 that has the new stepper motors.
Peter i just uploaded the parameters from
my losmandy G-8 with the ESCAP P530 motors.
