I've posted Christa's latest draft at http://userpages.umbc.edu/
~rich1/TShirtDesign.PNG .
I think this looks good. Unless I hear an objection, we're going to
move forward now with getting these shirts produced.
Phil, can you start on this? Can you throw together a simple design
for the front of the shirt (PF 2007 logo with some text underneath)?

Hi. Im strapped for time right now so I cant introduce myself very
well but;
My name is Conrad J. Klinkhammer. My resume is at

I wanna help the FSP in any way possible so any requests for something
to be made on photoshop I would be happy to work on and yeah.

Nice to meet you all.
Hi Conrad. Welcome aboard. Actually, we are in need of a design for the front of the t-shirt. Phil Denisch has started working on this, but I'm sure he'd be glad to let you handle it :-)
Phil, presuming you'd like Conrad to work/help on this, please send him what you have and what we discussed. If he can do something more elaborate, great, but if not, it's not necessary. Thanks.

Okay, we need to get the t-shirt design to the printer soon.
Attached are the graphics for the front (the circular logo) and the back. If you aren't getting the attachments, you can get them in the files section of the group. The files are PF07-ShirtFront02.jpg and TShirtDesignBack.PNG.
If you can any feedback/requests/comments you have on these designs by Wednesday, that'd be good. Thanks.
My comments are:
Front (Phil):
Add an apostrophe, i.e. The Free State Project's
Play around with the font so the text is a bit more bold and stylish
Back (Christa):
Increase the size of the text at the top. It should take up the majority of the width
Color in the porcupine. I'm thinking gold (like the porcupine on the tent) would be fine.
Increase the size of the text in the upper left. Again, use more of the width available
General:
Originally we were going with a red shirt color, but this was when we were doing the PorcStock design. However, since we're not doing that this year and I'd rather not repeat shirt colors next year when we do, I think we should have a different shirt color. I'm currently inclined towards a light blue.
Can the ShirtFront06.jpg version be modified so the text is not all
caps?

That's an "all caps" type font/face.
If you know the name of a font that you like (and I have it on my
machine or can get it) I'll use it. There's just too many for me to
try each one.

Good point. Do you have an editable version I can manipulate directly (e.g. a photoshop file with layers)?

I'm using CorelDraw, I should be able to save it I'll see if
I can save it in PSD format or in some other type you can
use (tonight, it's on my home computer)

We have an opportunity to place an ad in The Georgia
Libertarian, the quarterly publication of the Libertarian Party of Georgia. The
potential ad sizes and rates are in a table at the bottom of this message,
which hopefully will come through OK in HTML. I am willing to go with any of
them, depending on the quality of the ad that we come up with. The official ad
submission deadline is Monday, though they have offered to extend that by a day
or two. Do we have an existing ad that could be quickly repurposed? I am
ashamed to say that I am not aware of a central repository of FSP ad material;
it is scattered around on a dozen home computers.
The paper will be distributed just a couple of days
before PorcFest begins, a week before the big weekend. Would this be too late? I
don’t know how most Americans make their travel plans; as a single I guy
I often decide to travel at the last minute.
The ad should mix general FSP and PorcFest promotion
in some proportion, probably 40-60. The current PorcFest ad that I have seen would
work, thought it would lose something in the transition to black-and-white, and
it is inexplicably using www.porcfest.com
instead of www.freestateproject.org/festival.
Now that the FSP has two major annual events, we are
almost permanently in event-promotion mode. Especially if we rest and forego
advertising during the month following an event, every advertisement we put out
could include event promotion. This would create significant synergy: by
advertising both the FSP and the event, we point out the FSP’s vitality.
BTW, I hate dealing with these advertising
opportunities one at a time. It will be the first priority of the new
Advertising Coordinator to create a coherent Advertising Plan.
We need to get the final shirt design to the printer by the end of the week at the latest.
I've posted JPEGs of the shirt designs in the file sections of the Art and PF group under the title ShirtDesigns.zip. Also, a draft rendering of the design can be seen on CustomInk here. (we are not getting these printed through CustomInk, I am simply using their visualization tool).
Note: while we originally wanted color on the back, the number of colors and cost for those additional colors will like be cost prohibitive (Phil is confirming this on Monday).
Please let me know if you have any comments or suggestions. One person I've shown this to askin for a first impression said that there was a lot on the shirt. Is there too much? What can/should be (re)moved? Alternatively, is there something missing? Is the font, size, and style okay? Please get back to me by Wednesday with your feedback. Thanks.
Anyone who has tried making web banners probably shares my frustration with the gazillion different sizes. Blogads, for example, use a size (150x200) that is not one of the IAB standards. You might find the tool below useful:
Starting
in August 2002, the Ad Sizes Task Force
began a process to reduce the number of ad sizes for the purposes of reducing
the costs and inefficiencies associated with the planning, buying and
creating online media. The result was the Universal
Ad Package, a set of four ad sizes that all compliant member publishers
have agreed to support. For a list of publishers that are currently compliant
with the UAP standards, click here.
UAP Template Plug-In for Photoshop
In an effort to drive industry adoption
of the UAP standards, the IAB has developed a plug-in for Adobe® Photoshop®
which will provide those creating online advertising a template creation
tool. Using this plug-in, you will be able to create UAP compliant ad
units by selecting one of the pre-defined templates which comply with
these specifications.
The plug-in is offered as a download from the links below. You will need
to be a registered user of iab.net to download.
I think you could loose "the free state project`s" at the top in the
front because it says the website right underneath and not only is it
redundent it IS too much. On the back I feel you can have as much as
you want, but "The 4th anual", and then going to another line seems
clumsy. You could streamline it by starting with the second line
saying 4th anual. I dont think you need the the.
Here;s the problem with a nice background in an animated gif. The way
the files work. They use only few colors in their pallet to keep file
size way down and if you assign more colors so you can get a nice
picture you end up with a ridiculously huge file size. and if you
dont, the image looks cheap then your orginization looks cheap.
What size are we talking about here? if its 125w x 100h you cant get
all those words on a comprehensable banner.
A banner ad is supposed to attract you to a website that can tell
more information. Not give it all away. Simple is the best no?

The design(s) for PorcFest 2008 needs to get started. We want to go
with the PorcStock theme, parodying the Woodstock poster. There's
been some initial work on this design by Rissy which we'd like to
flesh out.
Rissy or anyone else interested in doing this? Again, there will be
financial compensation (we can work out the details privately) and
recognition.

Hi. I've posted the draft PorcFest flyer to be handed out at NHLF
(and hopefully be the basis for our general purpose PorcFest
advertisements) online at:

Please provide comments and suggestions ASAP. Thanks.

Y'all,
Is this list still on? ;) I hope so!
Irena and I just spoke on the phone about an upcoming direct mail project.
Some design assistance will be necessary. Lou's name came up (I think
you're on this list, right?) but I thought I'd check and see who would be
the best person / people to work on that. Anyone here care to speak up?
I suspect the project will entail appealing layout and design of a 4-6 page
(maybe 11x17 folded) appeal to donors and participants. It won't be solely
an appeal for money, but mostly. The text content will be created ahead of
time. Graphics / photos / etc will be the 'artist' job. I suspect most of
that content can come from stock stuff we already have.
Anyone up to the task?
Thanks!

What is the time-frame for this? I can most likely do it.
Be advised, I am on vacation Dec 18 - 28 in Utah.

It won't be before December 28th. It's likely to not be until at least the
first week in January. If my guess is correct, maybe more like the second
week.

Hi, this is Carolyn Ham, the FSP Development Director. I'm putting
together the annual report for 2007 that will be mailed out to all
participants and donors. I have the content together, but I need some
help with graphics, and Varrin said that this would be the best place
to look. Please let me know if you can help. There are only a couple
places in the document that need graphics, so it isn't a big project
by any means. We're looking at a deadline of January 10th.
Thanks,
Carolyn

It's great for advertising the DDR event, but at this point, I don't see another, more general, use. Perhaps if you made an array of the Porcupine engaging in various activities that could all be put together into single collage/mosaic? -Rich
